Appalachian State’s mission statement set a goal to ‘promote a spirit of inclusion that inspires students, faculty and staff to form relationships extending well beyond graduation.’ The change to the Homecoming Court was created based off of this idea of inclusion.

“In celebration of the university’s commitment to inclusion, we will be selecting nine individuals who represent the best of the best that Appalachian State has to offer. Our pool of candidates will focus on who brings the most to our campus,”

“Homecoming Royalty”, I guess that means they are better than everyone else.

Do they still elect a male and female to the Royalty?

I'm willing to bet that all of the students at ASU with the exception of those in the Frats and Sororities didn't even know that had a King and Queen, heck didn't even know it was "Homecoming" until now.

All 9 will still be boys and girls no matter what silliness the idiots put over on the students.
