How does Louisville make the playoffs?
Louisville is the one team I really want to see make the playoffs...

IMO, they have the best offense, and could make a serious run at beating anyone in the country, including Alabama

What do they need to happen to make the playoffs??

They're not going to pass Clemson...Clemson would have to lose twice, and I don't see that happening

Louisville needs the Big Xii to be completely eliminated. If Oklahoma wins the Big Xii, I think you can check that off. Baylor and West Virginia need to lose...

Louisville also needs help from the PAC 12. They need Washington and Utah to lose.

Lastly, you don't want to be a 1-loss team competing with a 1-loss Alabama at the end of the season. If Auburn manages to beat and steal the SEC West from Bama, Louisville doesn't want to be in a beauty contest with the Crimson Tide. You want Alabama to either win out and win the SEC Championship, or you want Alabama to lose twice to LSU and Auburn

I'm sure there are other scenarios, but those listed above make the most sense for the Cardinals

All we can do is keep winning and hope Clemson keeps winning. The ACC could get two teams in the playoff. 07-coffee3

Did you mention Ohio State needs to lose to Michigan, and the Wolverines need to win the B1G CG?

RE: How does Louisville make the playoffs?
We're currently the highest ranked one-loss team. If OSU beats Michigan, they'll likely jump us. So we need Michigan to win that game. Additionally, we need Washington to lose a game. WVU losing would certainly help as well.

If those things happen, couple that with the "X-factor" so-to-speak of having the Heisman front-runner and hopefully winner by then, we have a good shot at getting into the CFP.

Simple: win the ACC championship next year.

RE: How does Louisville make the playoffs?
Despite being ranked 5th, I think Louisville needs some folks in back of them to lose, in addition to someone in front of them. An undefeated B12 champ will get in ahead of UL. I also think a one loss champ from any P5 conference may edge them out with the CFP committee. Also, if Alabama or Michigan pick up one loss that keeps them from winning their conference championships, they could each stay ahead of UL. Just keep cheering for everyone else to lose!

I don't see any B12 team being undefeated. Its amazing teams like WVU and Baylor are unbeaten honestly(even though they haven't played anyone). Louisville really needs UW to lose. Things get interesting if that happens.

RE: How does Louisville make the playoffs?
Big 12 and Pac 12 need to eliminate themselves which I can definitely see happening.

The problem is going to come from the following teams: Texas A&M, Michigan, Ohio State. Now that A&M has played Bama, they can win out and go 11-1 with wins over Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, Tenn, and Ole Miss. Ohio State has lost to Penn St but could still win out which may include the Big 10 championship game. They'd be 12-1. The best bet for Louisville at this point is for Michigan, Bama, and Clemson to win out and for A&M to drop a game. They'd get in at number four.

so....Texas A&M? Michigan? Ohio State?

JMO, but Louisville looks more impressive than all 3 of these teams. Ohio State's loss to Penn State isn't that great...Ohio State hasn't looked great lately.

Louisville has been blowing people out. They just annihilated NC State...

Yeah Michigan hasn't been blowing people out at all. 78-0 to Rutgers. 49-10 over Penn St who just beat Ohio State, etc. etc.

And keep in mind just last week 'Ville beats Duke by 10.

The committee will put a premium on who you beat. 'Ville is going to have to beat people like they did State and hope teams lose. Or in Michigan's case, have them win out.

I think you pretty much nailed it. Here's how I put it:

-- Clemson to win out.
-- Bama to win out.
-- Michigan to win out.
-- Oklahoma to win Big XII.
-- Washington to lose at least once. Utah, and Washington State best shots at that. Losing to both would clearly bump them down.

-- Louisville has to win out, and convincingly.

But if this happens, you would have 3 undefeateds as major conference champs, and a 2 loss Big XII champ, and a 1 loss PAC12 champ. I think U of L can squeak into the playoff in this scenario.

LOTS of football left to be played, but that's how I see it today.

Washington can not win the Pac 12 championship with 1 loss. The committee would take them. Now if they lost in the Pac 12 championship game and that's their only loss, we have a ball game.

RE: How does Louisville make the playoffs?
Winner of OSU/Michigan is likely getting in. I don't see Nebraska winning @Wisconsin and @OSU in back to back games. So Louise needs:

1) Washington loses at least 1 game
2) Baylor and WVU both have 1 or more losses
3) Alabama wins out and thus eliminates any other SEC team

Then the playoff is probably: Alabama vs. Louisville and Michigan/OSU vs. Clemson

Good luck 04-cheers

Don't forget about Texas A&M. In this scenario the committee will be comparing A&M vs Louisville. A&M would have better wins, but Ville will look more dynamic. It would be nice for them to take an L too.

Louisville needs to keep winning. Take care of everything they can take care of. Everything else will take care of itself.

We need to win out? Sure would be nice but we are not going to the playoffs. That ship sailed in Death Valley. Our best hope is to extract sweet revenge and keep Clemson out of the playoffs next year by soundly defeating them in our house.

Let's wait to see where we rank when the first CFP Committee poll comes out......
That will tell us if we have a chance and what we need to have happen.
