How does he remind you of anybody when he has not played a single college game?

... You do understand there's a good 30 minutes or so of film from the past year, even actual games he's played in, right?
I don't know how fast he'll adjust but his shot is better, he knows how to drive and look ahead in transition. He seems better to me.
We'll have to see how the season plays out, but that is what I got from watching him.
EDIT: I guess film would be an anachronism, but videos of him playing are available all over the place. You can google it if you like.
Those videos are of him playing against much lesser talent than he will face in college BB. I agree that you can get some idea of what he will be able to offer at UC. But, no one knows how he will handle the speed and size differences in big time college BB. It is a lot easier to drive to the basket against a high school kid than some 6'9" beast waiting to swat your shot away. He will also be guarded much more aggressively at the three point line.
I hope he learns quickly and sees progress in his freshman year. But there is reason that less than 5* recruits don't usually contribute at a high level in their first year. It takes time.
Cumberland averaged 17.8 points per game (on 47.7% shooting) on the EYBL AAU circuit. Given that basically EVERY top recruit plays in that event, you could argue that it is the third best basketball league behind the NBA and CBB. Cumberland may not be great on the defensive end, but he will score at the college level if he is given minutes.

I hope Cumberland is everything we believe he can be. But I also believe neither he, nor most any freshman, can be counted on to perform consistently. Lance Stephenson had intermittently brilliant moments and brain cramps in his year here. If Cumberland can't or won't play defense his minutes will be limited. He was a great scorer in high school. I don't know if he's a great shooter or just physically dominated most other players at that level.
Wouldn't it be a pleasant surprise if KJ had a breakthrough year offensively? It could propel this team to a top ten season if all else goes as planned.

I think given the minutes, Cumberland has the ability to have a freshman year similar to what Evans did last year. It'll be an interesting battle between he and KJ. Of course, like you stated, Cumberland won't see the floor if he isn't playing good defense, because that's something you can always count on from KJ.

Way to early to talk about top ten season when in fact this team has only two players who have consistently performed against top D-1 opposition, Caupain and Clark.

Cumberland has to play significant minutes whether he deserves them or not. Jenifer is the only other backup guard and you're definitely not playing him as a SG.

No doubt, I have patience with this though. Kilpatrick had a year of prep school and a redshirt year on top of that and he was still mostly a spot up shooter 'til the Big East tournament and the NCAA trip. Cumberland seems a little ahead of that IMO. but you're right, I don't know how he'll adjust. Their games are just very similar from what I see.
