Huff?
Sorry if this was discussed in other threads, but I was unable to watch the game and checked the box score to see that Huff didn’t receive any carries… ?

Injured? Again, sorry if this has been covered. I haven’t gone through all of the threads yet and didn’t see the game. Also any other observations from game would be great.

44-7 good guys is always good.

Go Huskies

They mentioned in the broadcast Huff has been banged up and battling injury. Didn't sound serious at least.

RE: Huff?
Why do we even recruit other running backs? Even if Huff is injured JB isnt so great that he deserves all the carries in the game. We didn't see Mister until way later in the game.

Because he doesn't fumble, that's pretty much the only reason.

Not fumbling is a very good trait for a rb. JB is a good ruuning back-he blocks well, catches passes, and can gain yards if blocking is there. He's just not as explosive as Huff and isn't as productive (ypc). I think Huff is getting better at the other things and I do want him in there as the featured back. But to not give Mister or other backs some carries when it was 37-7 is stupid. Graham just kept keeping the ball.

bc he's a redshirt sophomore. they are watching his playing time, as much of a bunch of knuckleheads these coaches are, they aren't full blown morons... yet.

RE: Huff?
JB does all the other things so well. Pass blocking is a strength, pass catching he excels (how about long wheel route?) And being lead blocker on keepers etc... He follows blockers extremely well but his lack of top speed keeps his ypc down. I can't remember him fumbling this year (or last yr). He is a valuable player. I agree it is time a few younger guys start to see the field.

They may as well be. They thought Graham was a good #2 QB and moved Maddie to WR. Maddie isn't much in terms of passing but he is better than Graham. Then they continue to give JB more carries than Huff. JB is not a difference maker. Every time he is handed off the ball i wait to watch him run into another pile of players and fall down. When it is 3rd & short i am not confident in his ability to get a first down.

Mister already used his redshirt year. So whether they play him or not, he's losing another year of eligibility. Keeping him and the other RBs on the bench and not playing them is not helping their development. What happens if JB gets hurt?

This team needs difference makers, especially at the running back position considering Maddie (and Graham) is not that good of a passer. Golladay and Turner are our biggest threats when Huff isn't on the field.

RE: Huff?
Huff didn't play and considering his name wasn't on the early roster in August I'm just glad when he does get touches. I do think it is time to groom the younger guys while still getting Ws to keep the bowl dreams alive.

Yea, that didn't make sense to me either. Are we essentially saying that we have only 2 RBs? Bouagnon and Huff? Didn't we blow two freshmen's redshirts last year and then not play them?

Wolfe would be sitting on the bench I fear.

Completely serious question - does anyone have the scoop on why Carey and staff stick with JB? I am not talking about 1 or 2 games I am talking about over the last 2 years, especially this year. At least it would help me understand the logic - if any.

JB is a good back and many teams would be lucky to have him. Huff is unquestionably more explosive but he has not done as many things as well as Huff in the past. They were splitting carries recently and hopefully Huff is only slightly banged up and will come back at full strength against BG.

I never hope that someone is injured but I sure hope that there are not other issues lurking that kept Huff from seeing the field against Buffalo.

AJ would have been amazing. Not crazy amazing like Wolfe, but he would have been as good, if not better, than Spann (imho).

AJ was GOOD. He came to NIU in an era of All- American running back types, -3- of them Hammock, Turner and Wolfe. HE played in Canada for awhile, damn good player solid type guy.

Saw AJ Harris at the first NIU football game at Soldier Field. Maybe he's still involved with the program.
