Louisville is a rivalry. This UCF/Uconn thing is not.

ESPN's SVP on his One Big Thing weighs in on the Civil Conflict. (UCONN Coach Bob D started up this trophy without any input from UCF...and he didn't start it up before or even after UCF beat UCONN 62-17 in 2013...but only after UCONN beat UCF 37-29 in 2014...and didn't include the UCONN loss on the trophy (first game ever played between the 2 teams).

As others noted, teams many times have multiple trophy games in a season...and some of the better "trophy" games are really not trophies at all...they are "objects".

Maybe if UCONN Coach got with UCF...maybe came up with a North/South type rivalry game...it could have been developed by the 2 teams and could have come up with some goofy object prize (Orchard...Apples grown in CT or Groves....Oranges...grown in FL...or even something with I-95...North/South interstate from Northeast to FL...or now that UCF added an accent color to their uniforms...a gray called Anthracite...they could start up a Blue (UCONN) vs Gray (UCF) type game.

Regardless, nothing filled me with more relief than for Memphis to beat Birmingham in 2012 during our final Conference USA season. If they had kept that damned trophy I would have been pissed.

I had thought about walking on at MSU back in the late 60's but I attend my first MSU/SMU game and realized I was not physically cut out for this type of game. I wish we played them every year cause they were great physical football games
