I don't think there's any chance Gus would want to come back. It wouldn't surprise me if he threw his name in the hat for the Texas Job. He was actually born in Texas.

Pretty much. If I remember the story, our AD at the time took the call assuming he was going to recommend someone for the job, as he's done before. Was left in shock when he found out he actually wanted the job, but Freeze convinced him that he could win and win immediately.
It took him 5 games and a conference loss to WKU to figure things out, but once he did, I don't think a single conference opponent even challenged us. Probably the best team we've ever had.

Only beef I had with Gus was saying some things he couldn't back up like not leaving until we were top 25.
BUT Gus probably suffered from the same delusion I had. That Chizik couldn't possibly screw up the Auburn job that fast.

Lashlee was on Troy's list two years ago. If Brown leaves, Lashlee will be on our list for sure.

Honestly, if South cuts their losses with Jones this year, I could see them going after Lashlee, which is a frightening prospect.

Until he gets smashed by Bama again. But he will likely finish the year 8-4.
Seems like that wouldn't be a deciding factor. It's been happening to everyone. I think the SEC is what the out of conference games showed however now that they are in conference everyone believes that the conference is tops in the country again. Outside of Alabama, I tend to disagree.

I don't see Troy hiring Rhett Lashlee if Brown leaves. Completely different offense from top to bottom. That would be a disaster waiting to happen as far as trying to get players to buy in to the new offensive philosophy.

Lashlee fits best at AState or Georgia Southern since both run similar offenses (or Georgia Southern used too, I don't know what they call this monstrosity now)

Steve Campbell is a Troy alum and he's already beat us once.

Yeah, I wonder if Troy would look at him if Brown left. Offenses are pretty similar. UCA Runs a little bit more, but not that much more.

When Lashlee gets a HC job he would be the 5th current FBS head coach that has spent time at stAte other than Anderson. Walt Bell would have been 5th, but he turned down the ULM job.

Does anyone know if Lashlee is really calling the plays, or is he still a shill position coach?

The big story is that Malzahn turned over all play calling to him 2-3 weeks ago.

Not bad for an OC with 3 weeks experience.

True.
I was just thinking, if you put the personalities of Malzahn and Lashlee together, would that make a complete 'half' or 'quarter'?

I didn't think Lashlee was as bad as Malzahn.

Tonight Hugh Freeze took a true freshman and beat the number 8 team in the nation. In this thread I said I didn't want anything to do with Malzahn again but I would take Freeze back in a heart beat.
