Or Marshall doen't. lol

Well we kept you around after going 0-fer two years in a row and almost three, so I feel we have some leeway.

Good game, Charlotte.

Huh? Charlotte was 0-8 last season which was our first. We are 2-2 this year and really should be 3-1.

He is talking about S. Miss

was following this game while I was at the Western game...gamecast was driving us crazy with slowly updating. Yes I was pulling for Charlotte because Western has been in this position (kind of) before)

Marshall walks with a swagger. Historically you have earned the right. You have played against some of the Big boys. You have been we're we want to be. I for one am thrilled for the win. We needed it.

I miss that feeling. It's special and one you never forget.

This is not a good Marshall team but that doesn't matter. When Marshall beat what became a 1-10 South Carolina team in 1998, I didn't care they didn't have a good season. I still don't. It was when we finally had that marquee I-A victory.

I'm not comparing Marshall to South Carolina, but I am thinking you guys are feeling what we were that night. It's what college football is all about.

Phil Ratliff's wife taught in my community's school system, and his kids were in that system when he was an assistant at Marshall (his daughter came back to go to Homecoming last year). I am thrilled for that family tonight.

Tonight sucks as a Marshall fan, but there's a big part of me, as a fan, can appreciate about tonight. Congrats again, and stay #RockSolid
Nice and gracious post. Thank you. And your story about the Gamecocks is a good parallel. Beating Marshall, even during a down year, is a big win for us. Our guys need to learn how to win, and the feeling that comes with winning. Last night we got some of that. We will look forward to seeing you in Charlotte next year.

GEAGLE was the one I quoted after he said we don't belong here because we lost to you. Just pointed out their recent suckage. Nothing but love for the 49ers.

Read twice then react. Solves a lot of communication problems.

Pleased for Coach Lambert and the MU connections to your program. I am sure Jenni and the kids were there to enjoy it and Phil was smiling down.

That said, you are witnessing the end of the Marshall program I think. We are a poor school in a poor area. I seriously doubt we compete well in this league again. Just like an 84 year old man in the sack, we can't keep up. RIP MU football.

It's not that, it's just we returned a lot from a decent team last year and expected, naturally, some improvement. Could deal with some regression or early learning curve. But 2-5 with one being vs FCS, and one we all know should have been a loss but we got lucky? That's a bit more than drama. That's having no idea with the same staff and most of the players how we fall that fast. Even assuming some improvement in our conference mates, we should not be playing this poorly at home.

This in no way takes away from what you guys did or how you played. It was a great effort and well-played. It's just we see what our guys aren't doing right and don't know how to fix it or if it can be. Our worst season in 30 years shouldn't happen with a 7th year coach and offensive coordinator.

By the way I said hey to you on Herdfans :)

Calm down Marshall....there was a three year stretch where we went 4-32 then made it to the conference championship game the next season.

Plus, you have a very winnable game this weekend.

No, some see things realistically. Our area demographics are the worst in the league. Our state doesn't subsidize our AD to nearly the percentage of some our league brethren. Our fans and small student fee's make up a vast majority of AD budget dollars. The state of WV is poor, losing 30K coal jobs and tax that comes with coal production has killed us. Not taking into consideration the spin off jobs lost on the war on coal.
You don't know the situation so I am not gonna slam you. But we are losing the arms race. We can't afford to buy out our coach even if we wanted to.

Our core fan base of 20-22K is older and the AD hasn't done much to bring in new blood.
Its not drama, it's the damn truth.
Congrats on the program defining win.

Some try to make everything about themselves. They delight in team failures as they feel it vindicates them by proving them right.

Presenting Exhibit A.

RE: Charlotte Fans
There are two gold standard programs in CUSA, Marshall and Southern Miss. I am a life long college football fan (grew up in SEC country) and when the invite came to CUSA, my reaction was holy expletive, that's Marshall, Southern Miss, and ECU. The realities of life in the G5 are that there are going to be some ebbs and flows but obviously it should not be this extreme with Marshall this year. Two years ago you were on the verge of getting the Access Bowl slot, over the past five years you've been the best program in the conference, and after having been there, I dream of the day we can have what you do in Huntington. The tales of demise of Marshall football are being exaggerated, as I'm sure we will all see in the coming years.

This was a huge win for us, not just because of the respect for the program but for also the ties that our programs have. While I was driving to the game I was listening to your AD talk about how he was the one who made the call to Judy Rose to see if we would be interested in expediting our plans to go FBS. Lambert coached there, and obviously Phil Ratliff and his family are beloved figures in both communities. A win over Southern Miss would have been a big deal as well, but it was a little more special for our first big win to come against Marshall.

So do an inverse UAB and shut the program down. Turn the Joan into a baseball stadium and invest in woman's soccer, but I sincerely doubt that you'll get a whole lot of sympathy on a "Charlotte fans" tread after the way we've been treated for the last four years. I don't think think many niner faithful would care if you turned into Elon in football.
