As a fan of college football..
I was devastated to learn today that UConn has let the sporting world down by losing to UCF thus ending one of the richest and most storied traditions in college football.

The Civil ConFLiCT may be over but we have a lifetime to laugh at the three years of memories Mike Diaco blessed us with. The digital clock and the walmart trophy. Never forget.

As per Wikipedia: "Following the 2016 game, UCF exited the field without accepting, or even acknowledging, the trophy."

This type of disrespect is what rivalries are built on. The legacy of the Civil ConFLiCT will never die.

It's a unique kind of disrespect. One where you declare a rivalry with a team you've played like twice without bothering to tell them before you announce it to the world.

A disrespect so deep that you make the traveling trophy out of an old bowling trophy you found buried in your dad's storage unit.

Such levels of disinterest that when your "rival" defeats you in the annual clash of titans they let you keep the trophy and no one can be sure whether they even realize it exists. Truly bitter.

I suppose if they were in the same region it might play better. New England school starting a football rivalry with a college in Orlando just makes no sense. As another poster said it would be about as ridiculous as UCF starting a basketball trophy called "the dribbler" to promote a new hoops rivalry with Uconn.
Cheers!

The basketball thing would be a thousand times worse. UCF football had one good season that was like making it to the elite 8 equivalent in football. UConn has a top 10 all-time basketball program. UCF isn't in the top 50 football programs. Let's not forget that UConn managed a BCS game appearance in the last 15 years.

If UCF tried to make "the dribbler" a thing it would be more like SEMO trying to start a traveling trophy football rivalry with Ohio State or Southern California.
