AAC Hoops "Secret" Scrimmage Games List
The rules for "secret" preseason scrimmages are:

Games are closed to the public AND the media.

The only people allowed in the gym/arena under NCAA rules are the players, coaches, officials and essential personnel, such as game-clock operators. (Many of these games are played in practice facilities, small gyms, sometimes off-campus, etc...facilities much easier to control).

Also, game results are not suppose to be publicized as scores/stats are for internal use only...but sometimes the results do get out...either by a player bragging to someone in person or even via twitter.

From ESPN's Jeff Goodman:

Almost right in between the 2 schools (Indiana State and Cincinnati), so perfect neutral site location, plus, private facility easy to control access...and generally away from either major fan bases.

I read somewhere that Memphis and NC are doing a secret scrimmage also.
True?
If so, what is Tubby thinking?

I'm confused as to why this is bad? Why not scrimmage someone who can give us a realistic idea of how far behind we are, as opposed to scrimmaging some no name team that we will beat by 30 and not be able to gauge the depth and talent of a team?

How the hell can Lebo schedule two "Secret Scrimmages" against NIT teams from last year, yet not get them on the actual schedule?

Has anyone heard any results from these games? I know they are "secret" but they do sometimes get out.

People on both our sites reported that we beat George Mason by a lot. No details though. Monmouth should be interesting.

Reportedly SMU took Texas to the "woodshed" winning big in Austin so says one UT poster on our forum. "you're gonna be very happy with your team", he said. Colorado scrimmage was here, and we "won" again according to one source. Take it with a grain of salt... or several grains of alcohol.

Quote:Memphis/UNC scrimmage details

By Jason Smith
Jason.Smith@entercom.com

The University of Memphis men's basketball team played a closed scrimmage against 2016 national runner-up North Carolina on Saturday at FedExForum.
Here's what you need to know:

--Memphis got off to a hot start and led North Carolina by double digits midway through the first half, and it did it without American Athletic Conference Preseason Co-Player of the Year Dedric Lawson and redshirt freshman forward K.J. Lawson. The brothers didn't play in the first half so they could attend the funeral of a family member. Both figure to be starters (KJ at small forward and Dedric at power forward) when the Tigers tip off the regular season Nov. 14 at FedExForum against Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Memphis plays its lone exhibition game next Monday against Christian Brothers at FedExForum.

--Without the Lawsons, Memphis led North Carolina 20-8 in the first half. The standout for Memphis, I'm told, was Chad Rykhoek, the 6-11, 230-pound graduate transfer from Baylor. Rykhoek hasn't played a single minute of college basketball due to multiple hip injuries, so it's good news for the Tigers that he appears to be healthy and played well against a Tar Heels front line that includes 6-10, 260-pound senior Kennedy Meeks. I've said on the show that I expect to Rykhoek to be a major contributor for the Tigers this season - particularly in high-low sets with Dedric because of his shooting ability - if they can keep him healthy. So far, so good.

--Memphis went seven or eight minutes without scoring after building the early lead - understandable given the caliber of opponent and that the Tigers were without two of their best players. That's when North Carolina made its run and won the first of the scrimmage's two halves by eight points.

--The Tigers lost the second half by 11 points with Dedric and K.J. in the lineup. I'm told Dedric played well.
