Yep. People may forget Alabama has won 3 their last three national titles, in 2011, 2012, and 2015, with one loss.

If you are SEC or B1G especially, one loss is not a killer. But it does mean Ohio State is now effectively playing one and done playoff games from here on out.

Fedora is a good coach and he's building a nice program at UNC, but I think the ceiling is higher at both VT & Miami. Same with Narduzzi at Pitt. And then you never know what kinda year you'll get with PJ at GT. Then there's Duke & UVA - Cutcliffe and that program may have already peaked, but again, you never know. I'll reserve judgment on UVA right now, but they've been improving since their disaster start to the season. The hazing allegations aren't a great look for them right now though.

At the very least, the Coastal should be much more competitive with the fresh coaching hires.

Don't dismiss Pitt so readily. Narduzzi is a good coach and they are 6-1 against VT in our last 7 games.

Just saw this - I didn't mean to dismiss Pitt out of hand. In fact, I don't disagree with anything you've said. Narduzzi is a great coach, fits Pitt like a glove and has made them very tough to play.

I just think that VT will often times be in a position of strength comparatively with Pitt, mostly because of the respective in-state rivalries. Pitt will always be competing for PA talent with Penn State, who despite their recent form, carries a ton of weight in that region. UVA isn't at the same level as VT from an in-state perspective barring a few recruiting battles here and there. In fact, VT has been fighting for the best players in the state against the likes of Bama and FSU more in recent years.

There's no reason Pitt can't be a player in the ACC, I just think it'll be harder to hit the ultimate ceiling on a regular basis at Pitt versus VT because of the competition for recruits on their respective home turfs.

Naw. It hurts Louisville...a lot. SOS is part of the committee's formula for picking playoff teams. This is especially important for teams that don't win their conference. Louisville has no marquee games left on the schedule to impress the committee. They can only hope chaos ensues.

Myself not going to worry bout it-(CFP)...just going to worry bout going game to game see what happens.

Ohio St losing probably helps a little but Houston losing does hurt. A top 10 win would have been impressive for the CFP committee but it's not a death blow to our chances. We still need Washington & others to lose still. Let's see what happens. With O St & A&M losing, Cards can move up to 5 in the polls.

We need Washington, WV & Baylor all to lose & Michigan beat Ohio St & win the B1G. SEC, ACC & B1G champs are in with Louisville being the best 1 loss team & with the far better loss to boot. (A&M?)

Also, UL needs for Clemson to either remain unbeaten or to lose twice. It would hurt if Clemson loses to FSU this week then wins out, because that would weaken the "goodness" of UL's loss to Clemson but still not get you past them into the ACC title game.

ESPN this morning on Louisville:

3. Hello again, Louisville. While the SEC's odds of getting two teams in the committee's top four took a nosedive, the ACC might have boosted its chances with Louisville's 54-13 dismantling of NC State. If Clemson runs the table and wins the ACC title, the Tigers are as close to a lock in the top four as you can get. It's impossible not to notice, though, how thoroughly dominant Louisville looked against a team Clemson was fortunate to beat at home last week, 24-17. The best-case scenario for the ACC to have two top-four teams is for Clemson to remainundefeated, which won't be easy with a trip to Florida State looming on Saturday. The Seminoles will also be another common opponent used to measure Clemson against Louisville, as the Cardinals caught the nation's attention when they embarrassed FSU 63-20 on Sept. 17. Louisville's résumé could be impacted, though, by Houston's loss to SMU. Houston was the only ranked opponent remaining on Louisville's schedule. That game already lost its luster when Houston lost to Navy, but the loss to SMU could drop the Cougars from the Top 25 entirely.

Houston ends up 27th/24th. If they beat UCF and Tulane they'll be ranked coming into Louisville game, but they surely weakened our SOS with that ugly loss yesterday.

The A&M/OSU losses definitely helped though. 5th in both polls, need others such as Baylor/WVU/Nebraska/Washington to lose once at minimum which hasn't changed from last week. Not great odds but it's possible. Certainly need more NC State performances and less Duke performances.

Well, one of Baylor/WVU is guaranteed to lose when they play each other.

Nebraska still has to play @ Wisconsin & @ Ohio St & then face Ohio St/Michigan winner for B1G championship. Washington is @ top 20 Utah this weekend then @ Cal. Baylor & WV still have to play Oklahoma. Still a lot of football left to be played.

In the Sagarin ratings, Nebraska is the 5th most overrated of all teams receiving votes in the AP Poll. The AP has them #7, while Sagarin's ranking has them at #24.

The AP Poll is not a measure of relative strength, as Sagarin and most computer rankings are. AP voters follow an unwritten formula that often ranks teams far higher than their performance would suggest is warranted. While Sagarin isn't perfect, his rankings correlate strongly to one important measure. That is, if you compare his predicted point spreads to those of the Las Vegas odds makers for any given game, there won't be much difference.

Personally, if I have to choose between the opinions of bookies and a bunch of sportswriters, I know who I'm picking.
