RE: Mike Bohn Town Hall Meetings
I'd like someone to dispute the "no-win" situation comment. There is absolutely a way to win in that situation. All your players are watching a guy scream at you from the stands. Handle it with class and dignity and your players get a chance to see what a public figure is faced with and how to handle it with class. They could learn how to let pressure slide off their back and not get hung up on cries from the peanut gallery. You can gain respect in a moment like that.

I'd like people to not do what goes on at the post game pressers and the Tuesday bs sessions.
Ask questions that people don't want to answer. It's time they get uncomfortable.

UCat Members were sent invitations and asked to RSVP. Not sure if the invitation required a certain Ucat level (like the Riverboat Cruise).

I got one and I'm only someplace in the middle of the pack (will be out of town).

They are supposed to have a second one, but they may be so beat up after the first that they cancel the second.

RE: Mike Bohn Town Hall Meetings
Can someone please record the audio of the meeting on their cell phone for those of us out of town?
I imagine the bulk of the conversation will be on firing Tuberville. But would be interested in hearing Bohn's criteria for a new coach (existing head coach, midwestern ties, etc.).
Btw I got slammed on this board for suggesting Chuck Martin at Miami as a candidate but he might be taking them to a bowl this year and has pulled in one of the MACs highest rated recruiting classes. HC experience + OC under Brian Kelly at Notre Dame. Don't think we can get Fleck. But Brohm could be in play.

Bearcats Nation,
In light of recent events regarding conference realignment, I wanted to provide some perspective on history, the present and the future.
Our GoBEARCATS.com columnist, Bill Koch, a respected local media member for almost 30 years, has covered UC Athletics since the mid 1980s and has a unique perspective on the trials and tribulations our athletics program has faced through the years.
I asked him to share his thoughts on UC's grasp to reach the highest level of college athletics. With his engagement over the years from his desk at the Cincinnati Post and Cincinnati Enquirer, he has an outstanding perspective and I am excited to share that with our great fans, donors, students, faculty, staff and sponsors.
As President Davenport and I shared Monday, UC will continue to seek the highest and moving our program onward.
I am planning a series of town hall meetings to sit down face-to-face with Bearcats fans to discuss the future. We look forward to your valued input and participation. Details will follow as soon as they are finalized.
-Mike Bohn, Director of Athletics
A lot of us have chimed in obviously about the football coaching situation, but I wanted to look at all of this from a different perspective. As Bohn indicated above, he wants to discuss moving the athletic program forward. Aside for coaching, what can be done to move our athletic department forward now that the Big 12 invite is not happening? Some options:
- Do we stay in the AAC?
- Do we attempt to join the Big East (which would require us to either go Indy for football, join the MAC/C-USA or go FCS).
- Do we join the MAC for all sports? MAC is making $1M a year which is about $800,000 less than the AAC, but the travel cots would be significantly less. Would the MAC take us?
- other suggestions?

RE: Mike Bohn Town Hall Meetings
When are these town hall meetings actually scheduled? When I read this I feel like I'm in purgatory and am being beaten with one of those squeaky toy hammers seeing all these questions get pelted all over this board. Just wondering when there will be feedback to share from Bohn on these questions?
As long as someone is recording and the first thing that is said to Mike is "Listen, here, I've got a Bohn to pick with you!", I'll be deeply satisfied.

It's probably pushing it for this off-season, but I could definitely see Martin becoming a hot property next offseason if the current trend continues (which seems likely to me).

Martin's teams have certainly passed the eye test against UC. They were in a position to win each of those games against Tubs and I felt each year Martin had turned that program around, only to see their losing ways continue. So did he finally get enough of his players and sufficient talent this season to turn it around? I'll reserve comment on whether he's proven himself yet as an able head coach but his teams certainly seem to play with some focus and passion. Those attributes alone probably would have netted two more wins and bowl eligibility for UC at this point in the season.
I stand by my belief that UC must make a change and will attract a quality coach, albeit a young one. I couldn't have picked Brian Kelly out of a lineup before he arrived, so it likely won't be one of the usual suspects from a national perspective.

If Martin is still the Redskin's coach and Tubby is still here, book it that the streak will end in Oxford.

RE: Mike Bohn Town Hall Meetings
I actually liked Martin as our next coach when CBJ left. He was a logical candidate as someone with ties to Brian Kelly at Grand Valley State and Notre Dame. Like Kelly he won numerous national titles at the DII level. Personality-wise he is a bit like Kelly is in the sense that he is a fiery guy who shoots from the hip. I think our fan base would have bought in to the guy quickly.
His teams at Miami have taken their lumps because he inherited a mess. His squad is extremely young-- 60 of the 85 guys on the roster this year are Freshman or Sophomores. They will continue to get better as I think he is a decent x's and o's guy and can recruit (he has recruited basically as well as we have the past couple of years--- imagine trying to sell a recruit on a visit when there are 5,000 people in the stands and the team has sucked for so long).
I think if he would have came here in December 2012 he could have assembled a fine assistant pool right off the bat. With the talent we had on the roster in place at the time I think he could have done a better job than the current staff-- of course that is not saying much.

Martin inherited literally the worst team in FBS. Like Fleck at WMU, you can't reverse that in 1 or 2 years. He'll be 5-7 or 6-6 this year, and 8 wins are in play for next year. That's from 0-12 in Treadwell's last year. He's done good work. And I agree that if the coaches stay the same, they will break the streak next year.

Totally agree on all this. Miami hammers UC next year if Tubbs is still around.

Currently Martin makes 450000. We could double his salary and still save money by firing TT.

These guys are thinking career, not chasing a few more dollars a year. Martin made more $ as ND's OC than he makes as Miami's HC but he knew that success as a HC in FBS is a lot more marketable than success as an OC in FBS. (I'm not sure that many here fully get that.) We'll see where Fleck ends up in the next year or two, but I think Martin is ideally (from his perspective) following a similar course. As another G5, I don't necessarily see how UC fits in their desired progression of either, especially if we were to pay a G5 salary ($900K) as you suggest rather than a P5 salary (min of $2M+)

Sadly, I agree with this.
