Our average team ranking is 176, which means we are the absolute most average basketball conference since 175.5 is the average ranking of all 351 teams.

Hell, wouldn't "average" be an improvement over the past couple of years (as a conference) ?03-banghead

Its the over 200 rpis and especially over 250s that kill this conference. I would be in favor of making teams forgo their share of conference revenue from basketball if they finish under 250. There has to be some incentive to perform better.

9 of 14 are ahead of that line so I suppose that's good.

That's a question you should ask fans of Iowa State and Michigan State.

In the last two years CUSA's only representative to the NCAA Tourney stunned the committee members in the 1st round of the 2014-15 tournament. We received no respect than as the committee selected our conference winner as a 14 seed. No. 14 UAB knocked out No. 3 Iowa State, 60-59, in Louisville, Ky.

Again in 2015-16 CUSA conference champion is delivered to the lions when they select them as a 15 seed.... yet Michigan State becomes the first No. 2 seed that was ranked No. 1 in the AP lose to a No. 15 seed in the history of the Tournament

We also had a CUSA member in 2014-15 make it to the Final 4 of the NIT. Old Dominion University went on to represent the conference in NYC at Madison Square Gardens on National TV.

IMO we have earned respect at the National level. Yet we are overlooked as a Conference.

ODU plays JMU for their first game, and Rice plays @JMU in their first game two days later.

Should be a good common opponent to compare ODU and Rice.

Those numbers will get better this season. WKU is going to turn some heads. UAB is going to steamroll some people. USM will even win a few.
I love basketball season.

We were just hoping to win the game. But apparently this one's personal so we'll try extra hard 03-wink

We need to beat some of these teams non conference...What scares me again is a lot of teams including WKU are relying on transfers, usually take a little while to gel which means losses in non conference..

RE: CBS Basketball Rankings 1 - 351
If everyone just performs about 5-7% better than their projections (or we as a league do so), then we'd be about 20-25 spots higher per team. That would give us 9 or 10 teams in the top 150 and none below 300 just on simple math (not even counting the ripple effect of how higher RPIs would impact the RPIs within the conference).

It's doable - but you have to win the ones you should, come out a little ahead on the even match-ups, and steal one you shouldn't to make a lot of headway.

RE: CBS Basketball Rankings 1 - 351
The A10 board used to do a very excellent job of projecting, benchmarking, and tracking non-conference performance in terms of conference W/L, conference winning %, conference SOS, and conference RPI, on a game by game basis, and then ranking that against previous years. From that, they would project a non conference win total, a NC win total necessary to likely produce multiple bids, and therefore a total win goal for the league. Made watching the early season much more interesting.

I believe this is their thread for 2014-15 as an example (though I remember older ones being more robust): http://www.basketballforum.com/atlantic-...edule.html

If any stats freak wants to start this type of projection thread (which also doubles as a master conference NC schedule), I think it'd be entertaining.
