CBS 2016-17 Basketball rankings
I'm borrowing this from the "Main" (conference) board.

CBS has released their preliminary rankings for NCAA-Division 1 basketball programs. Here's how the AAC stacks up:
Quote:19. UConn
30. Cincinnati
56. SMU
72. Houston
75. Temple
83. Memphis
110. UCF
141. ECU
151. Tulsa
211. South Florida
254. Tulane

The top-tier-- UConn, UC, SMU, Houston, Temple, and Memphis--are all top 100 teams. The bottom--Tulane, USF, Tulsa, and ECU--are wretched. One UCF poster on the main board worries that if UCF suffers any injuries to their starting 5 (which likely happens to one degree or another), they might end up in the sub-200 range as well.

Have fun analyzing how this all shakes out.

OT, but I can't help noticing XU at #5. That's got to be the highest they've ever been ranked in the preseason if others end up seeing it the same as this ranking.

RE: CBS 2016-17 Basketball rankings
So UC's schedule includes:
#1 Duke (likely/possibly)
#5 X
#18 URI
#24 Iowa State
#41 Butler
And people are complaining about the non-conference schedule??

Based on ranking alone, UC should finish.....
16-2 in conference
9-4 ooc
25-6 overall

I think that's a realistic goal.

Most publications have Xavier between 5-10.

As frustrating as it is to consider, they've quietly turned the corner from "elite mid-major program" to simply "elite program."

#30 is one of the lower rankings i've seen . I'd say it's about 50/50 on publications/sites that have us in the Top 25. SI put us at #19 in this July preview

Eh... It's a pre-season ranking/projection. As long as we're in the 20-30 range I'm not going to get chuffed about +- 5 ranking spots at this moment.

Winning cures everything when it comes to rankings.

What caught my eye more was the putrid bottom of the conference.
Tulane and USF at sub 200...
ECU and Tulsa at around 150. (I think that ECU ranking is optimistic.)

Blah.

That is pushing it.

If they fulfill that top 5 level prediction I might agree with you.

So far they really haven't.

X lost their post defenders and rebounders. If they can't do a pretty tremendous job plugging those holes no way they are in the top 10, much less top 5.

I see them finishing the year in the 16-30 range. With my target in the middle at about 22nd.

RE: CBS 2016-17 Basketball rankings
I think SMU and Houston are both better than their ranking. Memphis I think could surprise with Tubby. You know they have talent and one of the best players in the league. The bottom is going to be bad again. Those programs have to improve but it's not happening at the moment.

At this point since we are stuck here I wouldn't mind if the AAC sent out a feeler to VCU, Witchita and whomever else about joining the league for basketball to help improve the league.

Yeah, Tubby is a really good...and usually under-rated...coach. He should have Memphis turned around quickly. Memphis' problem was never talent, per se. It was coaching. Assuming Tubby can work with the players Pastner recruited, and there's no reason to think he can't, then Memphis could be very dangerous in the conference.

Penn State is 64th as well. If UC happens to play them.

Marshall also at 126. Hopefully they are decent and can finish in the top 100.

16-2 is not at all realistic. Road games are difficult. I'd be happy with 15-3 or even 14-4. 15-3 probably gives us the outright championship or a co-championship with UCONN. Would also like to win a conference tournament championship for once. It's been a long time since that has happened. Not since CUSA days, if I recall correctly.

I think that Tubby is one of the best bench coaches in America.

It's a decent goal. I want to see single digit losses at worse (22-9). I think we'll split with UConn and Memphis and SMU and probably drop a road game or two outside of them. I'm expecting 13-5 to 14-4 in conference.

Only play Memphis once. Don't play at FedEx this year.

If the team plays up to their potential there isn't a game on the conference schedule they can't win. However, I'm betting on a 15-3 conference season. Thinking 6 losses overall is doable.

I can't see Tulsa being that bad. Frank Haith has only had one losing season his entire coaching career, and that was 10 years ago.

They have to replace four starters. I think they are five hundred at best.

You know what I would like to do this year? Win the freaking AAC tournament. It's been WAY too long since we've won a conference tournament championship. An AAC championship and a run into the 2nd weekend of the NCAA tournament are realistic goals.

According to the record books UC didn;t lose to Syracuse in 2006 now,so there's that.

So basically UC got knocked out of the tournament in 2006 because Syracuse was cheating. Awesome.

The conference tournaments have been brutally rough for UC over the past decade. So many last seconds, crazy, losses. You gotta figure that has to end at some point, right?
