Most definitely USF. They were ranked higher and they didn't have to worry about losing a coach after a good season because they had p6 status. Houston's coach on the other hand seems like has checked out already. That will be a problem for any AAC school that is undefeated and ranked high.

Grothe looked like Payton Manning in his prime in that game. 64-12....I will hate those numbers forever. I have no idea what changed, but they beat some really good teams early that season. That was a massive fallout. I know they had fans thinking they were on pace for a national title game.

Kevin Smith was suspended by O'Leary for that game. He was our whole team. We got mopped without him...

Smith was suspended for the 2006 game, not the 2007 game they are talking about here.

Correct. I think Kevin Smith out in 2006 cost us that game but we will never know. We was definitely playing in 2007.

I'm reading the same things I saw in 2007. Folks outside the BigEast dismissed the idea that there was more than one good team in the conference and if USF lost a conference game it was considered a bad loss. Nevermind that the teams we lost to went on to have good years. Ditto for the AAC. Houston lost a close one to a very good Navy team and suddenly the story is not how good Navy is but how over-rated Houston is this year. SMU was a stinker....but there are not many teams that don't have a bad game....look at Ohio State.

USF's 2007 season still haunts USF fans b/c it was all right there for the taking and chance to make history as a still young program. The biggest problem we had was zero depth along with some bad luck, injuries and getting matched up against Oregon in the Sun Bowl. We finished the season ranked in the Top 25...but that game was brutal. It was a great trip...but just absolutely brutal.

Definitely S. Florida.

No other team in college football history has ever been ranked in the Top 2 and finished the season unranked.

Beating #17 and #5 is not good enough to take a team to #2. A ton of Top 10 teams kept losing that year and created the scenario that took place. Heck, even Boston College - yes, Boston College - was ranked #1 or #2 that year.

Dude, a bit of advice, learn how to read more than one small part of a post. There were five games listed there which included a win against the #5 team and #17 team on the road.

FAU was decent that year and a solid win. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that I acted like that was the deciding factor in saying their resume was great.

When you're throwing it in to buffer it looks pretty weak. I'm sure Louisiana Monroe and Kentucky point to their 2007 wins over FAU as momentous as well. Also the win over a 4 win UNC could have been left out. WVU was a great win. Auburn was a good win.
Im pretty confident that the vast majority of the civilized world understood what he meant.
