I've been to Hattiesburg tons of times for ball games but I usually arrive in time for the game and leave when the game is over. For the baseball series in April though, I'll be staying over Friday night and hanging around for the Saturday game which doesn't start until 4:00. That gives me a little time to burn. Can you guys give me a few tips as to good places to eat or interesting things to see or do while I'm killing time Saturday waiting for the game/tailgating to start? I'll be with my young daughter. Thanks.

That depends on what u both like. There is Kemper Park, which is the local zoo. There are not many animals there but a good place for people to take their children. There is a playground and sitting areas. Also, there is the Rails-to-Trails down there. You can bring bicyclyes and ride the trial. Those are are just two ideas. There are the usual places to eat like Chill's, Ruby Tuesday's, etc. However, there is a good bbq place above the baseball park called "Stricks." I hope this helps some.

Rails to Trails is a 41 mile bike scenic bike trail with bridges, lakes and other sites to see. I recommend it. You can get on the trail at the USM gateway, which is by the ball park. You can rent bikes there or bring your own just to be safe. You can roller blade, walk, jog, rent golf carts, and certain areas ride horses.

Golf, Timberton Golf Club would be a good course to try. Cane Brake and the Country Club are members only. oops Just saw where you'll have your daughter with you.

If she likes to swim you can visit USM's natatorium. I think you can pay a fee and swim during their recreation times (call for their schedule)

Food
ChesterFields
Macks Fish Camp
Cresent City Grill
Cracheles
Andersons Seafood
Mug Shots Bar and Grill(for Hattiesburgs best burger)
Willie Ts Chicken Fingers (for a $5 plate of 12 Buffalo Wings)
Po-Boy Express or Villies (for a good sandwich)
Downtown Eating
Walnut Circle Grill (They require reservations)
206 Front Street

There might be a rodeo or some function at the MultiPurpose Center so check that. This past weekend they had a bike rally. Also check the Conference Center they sometimes have Gun and Knife Shows or some other things.

Check USM's music, theatre, and arts schedule. They usually have some interesting diversions. If you like the cultured route.

I'm coming up early today, around 1pm and will be looking for a place to eat lunch. How close is Mug Shot's to the park?

1/4 of a mile? It is an easy walk, but then again, I live in NYC and walk everywhere. There's a Sonic right there too and Strick's BBQ is directly accros from Mugshots

I would recommend Crescent City Grill on Hardy St. Great New Orleans style food!
