RE: Recruiting and Hilltopper Hysteria
This wave that WKU is riding will be great for the conference for however long it lasts. I think becoming a consistent two-bid league would start turning the perception dial and their potential in the years to come bodes well for that. The top 4-5 teams in the conference seem close to a breakthrough results-wise and I think we can earn at least one NCAAT at-large per year for the next few years. From there, we keep building and keep climbing the ladder

Add to that the number 1 player in the 2018 class Zion Williamson is vising Hilltopper Hysteria tonight according to Scout's Evan Daniels who is a WKU grad I learned recently....Just unreal! This raises the entire conference if we can really get something building at WKU for hoops....I really hope we have WKU fans show up and our students stand the entire game this season....Stans is doing his job, the fans need to do theres to get this rolling!

Anyone else have anything basketball tonight going on?

Over the past 3 years we've seen a lot of posts from Marshall football fans very similar to the one above about their football recruiting. And we see where they are right now. I'm just saying.....

Marshall got a commit from the number 5 ranked player nationally? Excuse us if we are just a tad excited...Sorry but this comparison does not work going from football to basketball...Most of Marshall bragging was about transfers who were 4 stars not 5 stars.......

Should be good for La. TEch and everyone in this conference if we are able to sign high caliber players...Whether it works out or not remains to be seen obviously, but certainly WKU having success can also raise CUSA profile two fold...

I can see CUSA being a 3-bid (or more) league in the coming years. Need to schedule up accordingly.

I'm excited about Gueye. Has a very similar game to William Lee on the offensive end.

I agree that good recruiting inside this conference will eventually help my own. My comments were more of a reminder of what happens long after the bragging about recruits has died down.

When I think of "over-boasting" about recruits in CUSA, I quickly think of two schools: Marshall in football, and WKU in mens basketball. Yes, everyone else brags a little too, but not quite as incessantly. AS the old saying goes....Don't be that guy. 07-coffee3

Agreed.

That said I am happy for them. We want all the conference teams be successful. I do caution them. That's all I'm sayin.

What's worse bragging about a commit who is currently ranked 5th in the nation or a separate thread for each 3 star or 4 star you sign? I have witnessed both on here and a thread for each 3 star player you sign seems to be more over top the top then being excited for having a commit from the 5th best player in the country....

UTEP has signed maybe top 50 players before, but not aware of them signing a top 5 player nationally....Bragging about football recruits is dumb as Marshall fans have shown...Basketball is a different animal then football recruiting...Football you can sign mostly 2 stars like we have done and fit in your system and still be wildly successful. Basketball you only have 5 guys on the court, you get 2 or 3 really talented guys you have a better chance of doing something special where football is more of a team collective sport to have success and also depends heavily on development, system, etc.

Everyone knows recruiting is a crapshoot that takes loops and turns, WKU fans do not need to be lectured about the pitfalls of recruiting trust me, we have witnessed it for years...

I'm excited for WKU because it might help the conference and shows all of us it can be done. Even darlings like Gonzaga haven't had top 6 classes. But, I've also watched enough mid major hoops to know not to count the chickens before they hatch. Theres usually something going on when these players commit to a non-P5 school. Either they back out at the last minute, don't qualify, have a severe attitude problem, get kicked off the team before ever playing, recruiting violations, transfers etc. I hope thats not the case, just saying lets see what happens next November before proclaiming WKU a likely Final Four team.

You're justified in being ecstatic about Mitchell Robinson. He is the real deal.

Well said, everyone knows this and at WKU we have seen it before with several players....

However completely normal for excitement and a thread when you have 2 top 50 guys commit and sit at 6th nationally for class, that alone regardless what happens is huge for WKU and CUSA even if it does not work out...This is a special circumstance vs. your normal randomn 4 star transfers in and or commits, that's one guy! This class is not even counting 2 former 4 star transfers with one guy already on the team eligible for next season....So that is 4 guys, with only 2 so far counted in top 10 nationally ranked class....

Whoever criticizes excitement and or posting over those facts needs their head checked and are haters/jealous....I am sure I could search and find 15 threads created on here for 1 3 star signing or committing to your school, much less 4 guys committing to one team 4 star and above....Excuse me if WKU fans are feeling a tad happy right now...

It's mostly that. I am really happy while being cautious this is happening as we all know a rising wave( don't want to use blasphemy by specifying the t word) lifts all the boats. Good for WKU and good for the conference.

While the bolded part above may usually be the case. WKU had just the right circumstances. It honestly only takes getting 1 guy and the rest start falling into line. Big talent wants to play with other big talent. By getting Mitchell Robinson, it allowed us to get another top 50 player at SG and also two former 4-star transfers at PG and PF. In today's youth basketball of AAU tournaments and etc most of these top 150-200 kids know each other. They play with and against each other all year long. Mitchell Robinson and Josh Anderson are both from Louisiana. Anderson even said in an interview after committing that Mitchell had been recruiting him to WKU too and he wanted to play with him.

RE: Recruiting and Hilltopper Hysteria
I don't know how Stansbury does it and don't really care just do the same things he did over the last 10 years or so. In that time he recruited top players to a school that plays in the SEC but not a power house and a city that makes BG look URBAN.

The man can sell and does it as well as anyone in the game...not coaching at a blueblood school. So far that has not changed in his limited time as Western's coach. Again I don't know how he does it but I'm OK with repeating what he does. We can talk about "cheating" till the cow comes home. But not even a letter from the NCAA since the early 90s at AP. So again...

just do what you been doing

I was one of the fans that said....but he was recruiting to a SEC school. Will never do it at Western. 25 years ago sure but not with espn's brainwashing over the last 25 to 30 years. I was wrong...at least so far. I never talk about recruiting because I know 17 to 18 year old kids change their minds often. Hell today most in that age group will do that 5 to 10 times today, tomorrow, just about every day.

So I don't bank on a player till he's on the court

But you do get a little excited about the "boy if it works out" and in this case there's a lot of talent coming into the Western program. Again...I'm not a "star" type person when it comes to recruits. Mainly because I believe a lot of kids just don't get seen. Now that has changed more over the last 5 years or so with most HS games being on the internet and AAU growing into just about a national HS system.

Again I'm OK with Stansbury doing just as he's done over the last 10 years...including his time at Western when it comes to recruiting. Don'y know how he does it and don't care. To me the man looks like a Funeral Director....just the look. He talks so softly that it's strange coming from a basketball coach. That is when he can even speak. Hell after a game he can barely talk he's so hoarse.

But one thing you get from Stansbury just from listening to him talk. He's a good man and a man you feel you can trust. Don't know him enough to say if that is a feeling based on facts. But when you can sell like he does and you have that trust factor...

it's easier to recruit

As far as a on the floor coach...he's still needs to prove that part of the game to me. Well he doesn't have to in the sense...but my opinion on his Xs and Os is not high

RE: Recruiting and Hilltopper Hysteria
According to Chad Bishop of WBKO Josh Anderson will NOT be signing in November.

That's bad news for Hilltopper fans.

Worse is when Bishop asked Robinson.

Quote:Anderson told me he plans on signing in April; Robinson told me he’d let me know – so TBD

We really need him to go ahead and sign in November. If he doesn't i'd put our odds at 5%.

That said we do have 2 really good txfers sitting out this year. They are on campus. One is practicing with the team the other getting grades in order. The one practicing with the team Lamonte Bearden is a STUD. Can't speak to the other. I like his video but have never seen him play yet.

And Stansbury is relentless. What he's done in a short time is borderline miraculous. Not guaranteeing we win a ton but with what he had to pick up and what he picked up a hat should be tipped to him. M'coach.

Welp UAB fans, comes down to us and UAB for TEvion Hollingsworth, decision and signing today at 330...He is front runner for Mr. Basketball in the state and is a heck of a player..He almost single handily won the state title for Lexington Dunbar last season..Dunbar sucked at hoops for a long time until he showed up, he is a special player and really hope we get him! WKU's best teams have included a great player and or Mr. Basketball from our fine state...

Hollingsworth has committed and signed to WKU! Big get for Stans!

UAB and WKU had a good day today. I think we are both happy.

Glad he is staying in C-USA. We need to make this league strong. Someone needs to kick some since into our bottom dwellers.
