This NBC link is just a "wrapper" around Carlton's post. Which was already referenced in another thread.

I thought the statement that BYU and Houston were the most likely was odd considering so many have said lately that BYU was out.

"Sources confirmed Wednesday that pretty much all the options are on the table, including the possibility of football-only membership with Houston and BYU the most likely members. The sources also confirmed that expansion has gone from likelihood about six weeks ago to maybe a 1-in-3 chance.”

I think Carlton was saying that he thought BYU and Houston would be most likely football only.

I guess only makes sense now if the presidents can only agree on football only adds.

BYU was always the best addition. They just also had baggage. So its no surprise to hear that.

Of course, nobody really knows.

The best football program, perhaps.

Can the Big 12 afford to be so myopic??

Is one football only, 1 all sports an option? Is 11 too logistically difficult for basketball scheduling?

Just a thought. What only adding BYU football only and go to 11?

If you want double round robin in basketball and 20 conference games, 11 members is perfect.

they can always expand to 13 as well with BYU (football only), Houston and Cincinnati, its not like an odd number of programs in a conference is THAT much of an issue.

Football only for Houston is definitely a head scratcher

I mean, where will Houston park it's other sports?!? I may be jumping the gun here but I don't think I like where this thing for Houston is headed.

Big 10 lived with 11 for a number of years. With Big 10 thinking of going to 10 conference games why not? Just saying...

Well, if an odd number of members all-sports is undesirable, and they just want to add the two best football-only programs ... I think that would be BYU and Houston, right now.

I think that's what he was trying to say.

No idea how that works out for Houston. Maybe AAC just lets them stay in the conf for non-football, balancing Navy football-only?

I'm not sure all fans realize that Houston (or any other AAC member) could not go to the Big XII for football unless they moved all their other sports to a conference that doesn't sponsor FBS football. I just don't see the Big XII making such a conditional offer to anybody but BYU, which already has a home for all its other sports. And to be honest, I wouldn't expect Houston to accept such an offer, which they would (and should) likely view as an insult.

Does it matters? If the GOR isn't extended the conference is probably going away after 2025 anyway.

I think if there was going to be any kind of expansion the teams being added would be absolutely to giddy to not tip their hands, considering everyone is looking for any kind of a clue so that they can break the story. The big12 has never shown itself to be "leak proof "
