Boise schedules a 1-0-1 with Florida St?! Wow! How?
Florida St and Boise St had a H&H scheduled for 2019 (Tallahassee) & 2020 (Boise). Today on football schedules website I see announcement, that it's now in Jacksonville in 2019 and Boise in 2020. What's the skinny? If this going to be a one off game or did Boise actually get a 1-0-1 with Florida St???
Cheers!

Imagine that Florida St could actually gross more from EverBank Stadium than their home field. Boise St probably couldn't fill a pro stadium out west, so they have to do a home.

"Boise probably can't fill a pro stadium out west" is your explanation for this? ECU probably couldn't fill a pro stadium out of North Carolina (and we are G5 kings of attendance) but FSU wouldn't do a 1-0-1 with us or frankly anyone else. This is weird. I wonder if they truely intend on playing in Boise? This isn't like them.
Cheers!

Florida State's president is originally from Jacksonville. I found an article from 2015 (over a year ago) talking about how he's been looking to bring an FSU game to Jacksonville in the coming years. Looks like they finally found one.

Boise travels pretty well, so I'm sure they'll bring some folk, especially with the game being over the Holiday weekend. Although I doubt there are any Boise-Jacksonville non-stop flights!

Pretty much a guaranteed national audience. ECU and most other G5'schools wouldn't attract much TV audience, so what is in it for FSU? Boise St can attract Oregon or Washington type TV audience.

But do you think they'll still play Boise St at Boise the following year? If so, do you think they'll demand a true home game vs Boise after those two games?
Differences: Boise played a one and done with Georgia in the Georgia Dome in 2011
Boise played a one and done in DC vs VT in 2010.
(Boise won both those games)

FSU appears to be the one who wanted the "neutral site game" (although it's not really that neutral). They see value to playing a game in Jacksonville, and have been seeking this for over a year.

So, if FSU doesn't have a "true home game" against Boise, that's of their own doing.

Of note, FSU has played/scheduled "neutral site games" in 2016 (Orlando), 2017 (Atlanta), 2019 (Jacksonville), and 2020 (Atlanta). This in addition to a true road OOC game in each year. It appears they are fine with the financials even if they only play 6 home games a year.

Right now they have 3 OOC games scheduled for 2020. WVU in Atlanta, at Boise, and home vs. Florida. Add a "buy game" and their schedule is set. Maybe things will change if a new President, AD and/or Coach come into town, but for now I'd guess they do play in Boise in 2020.

Boise also played Georgia in Athens in 2005. I went to the game and Boise crapped themselves like they usually do against power teams in true road games. (Non-neutral sites)

The closest pro football stadium to Boise is in Seattle--just over 500 miles away and almost an 8 hour drive.

People just don't understand how vast it is out here.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it a 1-0-1 setup. A 1-0-1 setup would be more like playing in Texas.

This setup would be like calling the LSU-Wisconsin game "neutral field" when it was played in Green Bay. Now, granted, it's a big game, so lots of visitors come... but that'd be the case whether it'd be in Madison or Green Bay, correct?

So I don't really see the difference of home-field advantage being in Tallahassee vs Jacksonville, with Boise State coming from the other side of the 'world' over to it to play Florida State. :)

Or when LSU plays in the Sugar Bowl for neutral site games. They do it quite often and even though it is not their actual home stadium I think we can all agree it may as well be.

They're probably getting a bigger payout for being at EverBank Field. It becomes a kickoff game too, just makes sense for ESPN and everyone involved.

Jax is 2.5 hours from Tallahassee so it will bee very much like a home game for FSU.

I think city of Boise is going to go crazy when FSU comes to town. While BSU has hosted some P5 schools (from the PAC10) and I doubt a major east coast team has ever visited the blue turf. I suspect it will break the attendance record to date.

I thought maybe it was a "Hawaii Rule - Week 0" thing, but for some reason Boise St isn't schedule to play Hawaii at all in 2020, so that can't be it... very strange.

I don't think there is any real mystery here.
FSU doesn't want to risk a conference game at a site across the state.
They don't want to concede home field in a season they host Florida.
They probably suspect (and rightly so) that if they offer fans a game outside of the season ticket package in Jacksonville with an FCS like Charleston Southern or The Citadel or a barely known FBS brand in Florida like Texas State or Nevada that fans will save their money and take that weekend off, making it harder to sell the game.

As Goldilocks would say, Boise State is just right. A team they should be able to beat away from the familiarity of their own field and locker room but regarded well enough to draw fan interest.

That sounds right.

As far as JAX airport, it looks like you can get there from the central hubs of the three remaining legacy airlines (Delta, American, United) plus the #1, #2 and #5 low-cost airlines (Southwest, JetBlue, Allegiant) have several routes there.

So, looks like you're flying to Mpls, Chicago, or Dallas, and then to JAX.

Florida St., unlike UF and more like U of M(FL) likes to see themselves as a national program, playing on a national stage. UF on the other hand appears to be very content to invite lower rated FBS and FCS (Presbyterian ???) programs into the swamp, collect their gate receipts and move on.

FSU v. Boise IS a national match-up. For 20 plus years you can always count on Boise to be in mix for the G5 access spot. This game won't be hard to sell and should be a fun one to watch.

Not every game played at a field other than your usual home field is a true "neutral site" game. I haven't seen anything yet that says the gate will be split with Boise, and if FSU can sell out the stadium in Jacksonville, they get both the additional exposure plus the cash. Why not do it?
