I just don't get how this would benefit the MAC. 1 of 2 things is destined to happen. 1) UCONN football program becomes good and leaves for greener pastures 2) UCONN football continues to be terrible and they are a mediocre to bad MAC team.

If the MAC did another Temple deal where UConn had to come to MAC schools for basketball games both mens and women I would be ok with it. That is a guaranteed sell out plus another game potentially on tv.

I suppose we'd get better crowds playing them in basketball but it would just be a beatdown for us. Maybe a few East teams could hang with them for a while.

I think it still wouldn't be worth it to add them football only.

RE: More UConn Football to the MAC chatter...
I could see a generic MAC office wanting to do it as hurting a competitor that might try to take some of your teams and as far as hurting the AAC goes UConn going away is a huge blow. The AAC's biggest asset is its basketball as it is the one thing that the other G5 cannot really replicate at this time (getting to an access bowl type game has been done even by the MAC in the BCS but having 2+ bids every year is not). Without UConn the only other school worth so much to a MAC program is Cincy and everybody knows they want out (heck they may try to join the BE too if UConn joins though I am not sure the BE cares about Cincy as much as UConn to go out their way for them).

However it would not really be the MAC making the choice as much as a bunch of individual school presidents so that thinking is not necessarily going to take the day.

As for whether they would help. They probably would though I think the bigger issue woudl be for scheduling. Would they go back to irregular scheduling or do we pick up a 14th team? I do think UConn would pay for itself. I think people's worries are more about perception (being used as a stepping stone) rather than making an actual analysis of what is gained versus what is lost. It would certainly require a nice deal and one nice thing is that since you know they think it is going to be temporary you can make a condition of getting a lot of money if they do leave (or whatever else you want out of them) and you know they can afford to pay it.

Of course this would mean losing them as an OOC options which would be unfortunate for some schools like Buffalo since they are a winnable OOC school with some name recognition (generally not really for football but it still works) though I think Buffalo would like playing them in conference too.

Just say no to 13 team football conference.

If neither UC or UConn get a Big XII invite, I say the MAC work with the Big East. MAC gets UC & UConn for football, Big East gets them for everything else.

If they brought UMass back in with the previous basketball deal, I can see it being much more palatable.

I just like the narrative of the MAC pulling a team from the AAC. It's not often the MAC is the destination in these kinds of moves.

RE: More UConn Football to the MAC chatter...
The only reason UConn moving to the Big East is even discussed is because the Big East at the moment has a better TV deal.

The AAC is set to renegotiate in 2018. That sounds like a long time but its only 18 months away of having a much improved TV deal.

It would take a scenario where the B12 added Houston and Cincinnati before the AAC renegotiated the TV deal for UConn to give up on the AAC. Remember there are exit fees which they are still collecting from anyone who leaves and that has to be considered.

If that scenario was presented to the MAC to take in UConn and another AAC school like Memphis FB only with each giving 4 men's/women's basketball games to the MAC I'd think it would have to be seriously entertained. Definitely it would infuse the MAC with security knowing none of its members would move to what is left of the AAC.

This is some UConn fan's wishful thinking. Big East does not want to add a giant state school.

This is interesting actually.

Might mean that UCONN has given up on the Big 12 hopes, and moving in a different direction.

Plus- that means UCONN doesn't see the AAC as formidable after the departure of say Houston/Cincy.

MAC becomes the strongest group of 5 conference.

Not saying that just by adding UCONN we get the strongest football conference. Just saying after AAC loses its best members.

Also, I'd say UCONN HAS to play several schools in basketball.

Tired of being the retread for teams that Suck and what to revive their program by gojng to the MAC. We need to take a stand and not budge. Who cares about the eastern media UCONN football is atrocious and would do nothing for the MAC
Besides if they turn it around they will leave at first chance.

UConn uses MAC football-only to get out of the American and into another conference.... I don't see it happening at all. I read the article, but have a hard time believing the Catholic Seven+3 would add a state school. They seemed very committed to their culture of faith. I also agree that football-only invites shouldn't happen for us. Remembering Central Florida, Temple, and UMass, none of the football affiliates would leave for our conference, and others probably won't until at-large bids to the Big Dance start happening.

It won't happen.

How about invite UMass and UConn as full-members tho?

Or is the fear they'd just bolt for a 'better' conference even as full members?
