Lost in regular season 14-7, at Michigan.

Goes through rest of regular season undefeated, including win this week vs Ohio St and beating previously undefeated Nebraska.

Loses another close one to Michigan in the Big Ten CCG. By that time, Michigan receives #1 ranking.

Not saying I think they should be in CFP. Just asking you guys, is Rose Bowl best they can do??

Michigan wouldn't be #1 if Alabama is 13-0.

Rose or Orange would be the spot for Wisconsin.

I would say about 95% yes.

Rationale: The Rose is the automatic spot for the best Big 10 team not in the playoffs. An 11-2 Wisconsin that beats Ohio State should be the pick there.

In addition, for an 11-2 non-conference champion to get picked, the other conference champions need to have 2 or three losses; in order for one conference to get two in, you are eliminating two other conferences instead of just one.

I know - assume Alabama loses, Michigan goes undefeated.

Idea is simply: hey Wisconsin beat everyone except #1 in the country, and had to rematch them in the CCG through no fault of their own.

Yeah I know, life is not fair sometimes.

Even if Wisc skipped the CCG rematch and finished 11-1, they would not get in to the playoffs. But a 11-2 wisc team would have 2 shots to beat Mich, 1 of them on a neutral field. What are you going to do? Give Wisc a 3rd shot to beat Mich? No way. Give 3 other teams a try.

A more interesting question would be what if Wisc beats Mich in the rematch? Wisc would probably then be in, but would a 12-1 Mich team get a shot at the playoffs?

Not necessarily. Alabama could play poorly to barely-beat lower end SEC teams while Michigan still cleans house. But yeah, one should not bank on it.

With that said, yes, the Rose Bowl (2nd to the 4-team "playoff") -- would be the highest a non-conference B1G/P12 winner would be expected to go.

In this Hypothetical, if Michigan's #1 and Wisconsin loses Only to #1 twice, could they get in the playoffs? They'd have to be Clearly better than the 4th & 5th best P5 conference champions.

#1. Michigan (13-0)
#2. Alabama (13-0/12-1)
#3. Washington (13-0/12-1)

- Oklahoma (9-3) winning B12 off tie-breaker
- UNC (11-2) winning division off tie-breaker, beating Wake Forrest in ACC Championship game

You could then say Wisconsin losing another barn-burner to UM, being the only team to challenge them yet again after UM destroys Ohio State (again, we're talking fantasy land here), could earn that #4 spot.

With that said though, even then, I would say they'd probably pick the ACC Champ UNC. Why? Hey, Wisconsin, you already lost to one of those 3 teams *twice* in this 4-team playoff. Let's choose a P5 Conference winner with the same record instead.
