Remaining Undefeated, 1-Loss, and Winless Teams (before week 7)
Teams with 1st Loss Week 6: 5
Houston
Tennessee
Maryland
Air Force
Miami (FL)

Teams with 2nd Loss Week 6: 11
Georgia Southern
Indiana
North Carolina
Colorado
Minnesota
Southern Mississippi
Eastern Michigan
Army
Arkansas
Stanford
Texas Tech

Teams with 1st Win Week 6: 2
Arkansas State
Georgia State

Percent of Teams with 1st loss:
Week 1: 34.38% (44 of 128)
Week 2: 42.85% (36 of 84)
Week 3: 20.92% (11 of 48)
Week 4: 27.03% (10 of 37)
Week 5: 42.31% (11 of 27)
Week 6: 31.25% (5 of 16)

Maximum number of undefeated teams: 7
-Ohio State/Michigan/Nebraska, Texas A&M/Alabama, Washington, Clemson, Baylor/West Virginia, Western Michigan, Boise State

Week 6 Thoughts:
-In our battle of unbeatens, Texas A&M won in double overtime. Tennessee now needs to beat Alabama at home to keep control of their SEC destiny.

-We are down to 20 undefeated or 1-loss teams from the 5 power conferences. Since the formation of the BCS, only 1 team with more than 1 loss has made the CFP/BCS Championship (2007 LSU, the year everyone seemed to lose when they got to the top). Them and possibly Boise State likely make up our 4 Peach/Fiesta Bowl teams. That said, a 2 loss team is more likely with 4 teams than 2.

Group of 5 competition thoughts:
-Houston: They are out of the Peach/Fiesta Bowl race and getting the automatic Group of 5 spot will require several things. They need to be a conference champ for that and now need Navy to lose twice or end up in a 3-way tie (where they win the tiebreakers) to be conference champs. That said it should be remembered if they are a top team in the final CFP poll, they’ll be in still. Realistically, that would require a top 9, 10, or 11 finish (depending on other teams in the 6 bowls). That probably means winning out impressively and some luck.

-Undefeated Western Michigan has 2 wins over Big Ten teams.

-Undefeated Boise State has made College Football News projections for the Fiesta/Peach Bowls several weeks.

Week 7 Thoughts:
We have no games between undefeated teams. The undefeated teams playing are: undefeated Clemson hosting North Carolina State, undefeated West Virginia at Texas Tech, undefeated Western Michigan at Akron, Kanas at undefeated Baylor, undefeated Alabama at Tennessee, undefeated Nebraska at Indiana, undefeated Ohio State at Wisconsin, and Colorado State at undefeated Boise State.

-On the winless side, winless Miami (OH) hosts 2 win Kent State and winless Rice hosts 2 win UTSA.

Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 1, American: 0, Big 12: 2, Big Ten: 3, MAC: 1, Mountain West: 1, PAC-12: 1, SEC: 2, total: 11

Clemson
Nebraska
Baylor
Texas A&M
West Virginia
Michigan
Ohio State
Western Michigan
Washington
Alabama
Boise State

1-Loss Teams: ACC: 5, American: 5, Big 12: 0, Big Ten: 2, Conference USA: 1, MAC: 1, Mountain West: 2, PAC-12: 2, SEC: 2, Sun Belt: 1, independents: 0, Total: 19

North Carolina State
Troy
Tulsa
Middle Tennessee
Virginia Tech
South Florida
Florida
Toledo
Wisconsin
Navy
Wake Forest
Utah
Memphis
San Diego State
Louisville
Arizona State
Houston
Tennessee
Maryland
Air Force
Miami (FL)

Remaining Winless Teams: Conference USA: 1, MAC: 1, Sun Belt: 0, total: 2
Rice
Miami (OH)

Nebraska at Indiana will be interesting, to see just how much the West sucks this year.

Yes, which would suck for the automatic G5 spot team, because that's who they'd play, and if you are the automatic G5 team, one of the desirable things about getting into an NY6 bowl is the chance to match up against a top big name P5 team, like Houston did when they played FSU last year.

But the way things are this year, that can't happen. That's because unless they make the playoffs, G5 teams always play in Access, not Contract, bowls, and this year, because the Peach and Fiesta host playoffs, the only Access bowl with an "at-large" slot is the Cotton Bowl, and of course as an Access bowl, the Cotton is already hosting the automatic G5 team.

So if Houston does creep back up into the top 10 and earn an NY6 spot, it will be in the Cotton vs the G5 auto champ, unsatisfying for them and the G5 champ. And the Cotton, which will be the G5 dump bowl like the Fiesta was in 2009 (?) when it hosted Boise vs TCU.

I thought they already said that if a G5 gets an at-large, there would be no "second" G5 access slot.

Certainly bad timing if that ends up happening. On TCU vs Boise though, the Fiesta choose that. They could have had (I believe) Iowa and decided to try aomething different.

I believe they said if a G5 champion was in the CFP. That would make sense as it would be the highest champion already in a bowl. Since Houston in this senario isnt a conference champ, I do not believe it applies,, but am not 100 percent sure.

They said no automatic slot if a G5 makes the CFP, but a second team getting selected as an at large is not banned.

Remember, if it comes down to an undefeated Boise State and Houston and they both wind up in the top 5 in the polls? They can not ignored them. Those two schools alone are two big high profile G5 schools than a Northern Illinois.
