It is hilarious to see because the Rutgers fans act big time despite the fact that the Big 10 only took them because of their location.

1 TV subscribers for Big1G Network
2 Great AAU Academic University that fits in with Big1G culture
3 Patsy to pad wins with for the schools in the Big1G trying to actually make it in the playoffs or Top 10/ Big Bowl games
4 Rutgers was available and probably crap simple to negotiate with.

I get the TV part - but the academic part isn't a driver - their AAU deal is due to research level not quality - they are number 70 in USNWR, so not all that strong an academic addition. Good enough to continue the Big 10 farce that it matters at all.

NY/NJ/Philly allure. Uconn can only claim NYC & Boston.
Cheers!

And maybe Connecticut.

Picking Rutgers over a school like Connecticut was an interesting choice.

He only wrote like New York City is an "only". NYC is so large and important, it could support 4 NFL teams, 4 NBA franchises, and 4 MLB teams. Every conference wishes it was important to NYC.

Rutgers' AAU status was the tipping point.

I say this after seeing that Rutgers has been outscored by OSU and Michigan by a grand total of 122-0 with the Michigan game still in the 4th quarter. Last year they lost to the same 2 team 98-23.

Could Cincy or UCONN do any worse? Of course not.

Rutgers got them NYC metro for their network and for the tv deals.
