Would Alabama or Tennessee feel good about playing in Sugar
So if only one SEC team makes the CFP, is the other rewarded by playing the Big 12 Champ this year? Should the Sugar open up some options? I know it's early for the SEC, but this year at this time, it's late in Big 12 land.

The Vols would have no problem with that. The issue is if things play out with UT going 10-2 in the regular season and they lose again in the Championship game, would the Sugar want them over a 1 loss A&M

it would go higher ranked and that would be A&M and not even close. A&M would be like 6 or 7, Tennessee like around 15.

So one team in CFP and one in Sugar against Big 12 Champ?

yep. And very possibly a 3rd in the Orange vs Louisville or someone else from the ACC.

Would much rather Tenn/Alabama/Tex A&m than Wisconsin. I could live with Michigan.
I'm just surprised there isn't the same talk about Texas A&M as there is about UofL making the playoffs as a one loss team. Have to believe if A&M beats Alabama, a one loss Bama team also gets a playoff nod. Just not hearing the same chatter for some reason.

Come on. Alabama will only be happy if it makes the playoffs.

Tennessee? Of course they'd be happy to play in the Sugar Bowl. When's the last time they played in a major bowl?

AnM didn't make anybody pay attention until yesterday.

Because AM is still unbeaten, so it is premature to talk about their chances for the playoffs as a one loss team.

When they (or Alabama) lose, then the 'chatter' about them making the playoffs as a one-loss team will begin. Which is yet another problem Louisville faces.

What a conversation that will be at the end of the year if UofL and Clemson win out and then the loser of the Texas A&M vs Alabama wins out with the other team remaining undefeated. A case could be made for two teams from each conference. Sure wish these four could decide it on the field.

No.If that's how it plays out A & M would go to the Sugar. The SEC hasn't made a final decision on the LSU-UF game yet. What if UF goes 6-1 & UT is 6-2?Is there any chance that game is never played?

RE: Would Alabama or Tennessee feel good about playing in Sugar
I think things are looking pretty good for the SEC to get 3 teams into the NY6 Bowls.

(1) into the playoff. Presume at this point the playoff has a B1G, SEC, Pac-12 and ACC team each.

(2) automatic into the Sugar Bowl, to play the Big XII champion.

(3) the Cotton Bowl is setting up to be "Best Non-Power 5 Champion vs. At-Large." Outside of there being a 2nd Big XII team that is good enough for this at-large (unlikely), Tennessee, Florida or Texas A&M would be a pretty good fit for Dallas.

A 2nd ACC team (e.g., Louisville) is heading to the Orange Bowl, as is a possible 3rd Big Ten team (e.g., Wisconsin). That would set up Boise State vs. Tennessee/Texas A&M/Florida for Dallas.

The Orange Bowl is done prior to the Cotton Bowl....

So if final standings were
6 Texas A&M
7 Tennessee
8 Wisconsin

A&M would be going to the Sugar Bowl.
Tennessee would go to the Orange Bowl over Wisconsin.
Wisconsin would go to the Cotton Bowl.

True, true. If UT goes to the Sugar and it comes down to Texas A&M and Wisconsin though, it seems like there could be some benefit to "bending the rules" a bit:

(1) A&M to the Cotton and Wisconsin to the Orange seems to make a bit more sense in terms of ticket sales and regional appeal. Boise State would travel well to Dallas, I'm sure, but even with that there would be a whole lot of seats still to sell in that stadium.

(2) Louisville and Texas A&M would be a re-match of the 2015 Music City Bowl: I know the Orange has some sort of option to avoid re-matches, but not sure if that's only same-season re-matches.

(3) The Orange hasn't taken a B1G team yet (took an SEC team in 2014). The Orange needs to take a B1G team 3 times over 12 years. Wisconsin would kill that bird once.

Well Sankey the game must be played so I think the SEC is going to force the buyout option. It's the wrong way to solve this problem, but UF dragged their feet leaving this as the only solution

If TAMU and Louisville both finish with one loss and are not conference champs, they very well could face off on the field- but only in the Orange Bowl because neither will make the playoffs.
