Upset Specials for October 8th ...
Notre Dame 27
NC State 14

The Irish are a 3-point dog in this game, but shouldn't be. They are still talented, and NC State has beaten who? Wake Forest?

The rain is going to slow down the NC State offense and expect Notre Dame's superior power on the lines to make for a grind it out win.

FSU 33
Miami 24

Miami is better, yes. But FSU has something to prove, so expect them to pull it together like they did against USF. There is still a talent gap here, in FSU's favor. The Seminoles will win this with Dalvin Cook being the difference.

Definitely agree on FSU-Miami

FSU offense vs. Miami D is a major mismatch
FSU will come out angry as well

I don't consider either of those upsets. Got a lot of teams right now who are "paper tigers", because they haven't played anyone.

Perfect example: Maryland.

I'll take Penn St over Maryland in a microsecond.

Agree about MD being a paper tiger. Problem is, Penn State is a paper puma.

Maryland will win, 17-16. :)

Screw Vegas, I agree neither are upsets, Notre Dame has struggled but still has the potential to be an elite team. Miami hasn't been a legit elite team in years, certainly not one that can be trusted as a heavy favorite.

Keep the weather in mind. ND-NC State being played in monsoon conditions. Could be even worse this afternoon for VT-UNC.

If they played under normal conditions, I'm pretty sure Notre Dame wins.

Notre Dame going to have to work to just be bowl eligible. Assuming a loss to Stanford- would need to get at least 2 wins between USC, Miami, and Virginia Tech- and then beat both Army and Navy.

No, we would still have Brian Kelly as our coach.
Congrats NC St

I couldn't understand why Kelly kept calling passing plays for Kizer. You have a terrible offensive line, terrible center and receivers who couldn't catch the ball even if they were covered stick'em. Very poor play calling and even worse execution.

Kelly has clearly lost the team. He may very well be on the hot seat before the end of the season, and before the point comes up that ND won't pay another coach to go away - 1.) Kelly isn't making nearly as much as Weis and 2.) there are many, many powerful, influential and rich donors that don't tolerate losing football in South Bend. They got rid of Willingham when it was apparent a change was needed, and they would have moved on from Weis if Kevin White didn't give him a huge contract extension before he completed his first season.

It was the worst coach game I have seen. Money won't stop it from happening it's the will to do so. How bad will it get? I want he gone.

This is Army's best chance to beat Notre Dame for the first time since 1958.

Monken will blow it somehow.

Worst records in last 8 games among Power 5 teams: Iowa State, Kansas & Oregon State 1-7, Notre Dame, Purdue & South Carolina 2-6

Kelly is definitely on the hot seat, IMO. With remaining games against Stanford, Miami, Army, Navy, Virginia Tech and USC, the schedule doesn't get any easier. If Notre Dame continues to play like they have, they could lose a majority of their remaining games.

ND could be looking at a 5-7, 4-8 or even 3-9 season. 6-6 against that schedule would ensure Kelly comes back, but it certainly doesn't look like it will end up that way.

Very possible. I could see Notre Dame losing to...
Stanford next week
Miami on 10/29
Navy on 11/05
Army on 11/12
Virginia Tech on 11/19
USC on 11/26

Yep, the Irish could conceivably lose out the rest of the season... if that happens, Kelly is unemployed.

Wow, that schedule is brutal. There is a very real possibility that we could have job openings at LSU, Texas, Notre Dame, USC, and Oregon. That would have to be unprecedented. Obviously a long way to go but....
