How the SEC is outclassing the Big 12 in Texas during Red River Showdown week

"The fact is Houston, the fourth-largest city in America, is now an SEC town. That should be a very tough pill for the Big 12 to swallow"

"Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby declined to comment for this article. The Big 12 is considering expanding -- Houston is one of the candidates -- but it's possible the conference will stay put. A future question looms for the Big 12: Will Texas and Oklahoma go elsewhere in the next decade?"

I'm not sure this is an implication of the Big 12 (although the recent down cycle doesn't help) as much as evidence of the strength of the SEC. In college football, this is the SEC's world and we are just living in it. That's true for all non-SEC conferences, IMO. The SEC has by far the biggest average crowds, strongest recruiting classes, and strongest TV ratings and in all those areas #2 isn't that close. You do a direct comparison of any conference with the SEC and it isn't much of a match.

The article is very bias since it's a CBS website and it's a CBS game, but I agree for the most part. OU and Texas aren't that great right now so the aTm Tenn game is a little more appealing. The only thing is it sucks Tenn is so injuried and I think it could turn very bad for Tenn especially because they haven't looked amazing this year as promised. OU UT could actually be a better game but we will see.

Yea, I agree that UT may get blown out. But they still will likely win the SEC East. There are probably 4-5 teams in the SEC West that could win the SEC East.

Schools ebb and flow. When Oklahoma and Texas right their ships, the ratings will return.
