Florida governor says state won't extend voter registration
http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/06/politics/r...index.html

Florida Gov. Rick Scott says he will not extend the deadline for voter registration in the state despite concerns over the impact of Hurricane Matthew.

The Republican governor told reporters Thursday he doesn't "intend to make changes," saying "people have had time to register."
Hillary Clinton's campaign earlier Thursday had called on Florida officials to extend the state's Tuesday voter registration deadline because of Hurricane Matthew's potential disruption of late sign-ups.

Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook told reporters Thursday, "the one thing that we are hoping and expecting is that officials in Florida will adapt deadlines to account for the storm."
"The voter registration deadline in Florida is October 11, and our hope would be that a little bit more time will be given for people who were expecting to be able to get registered before the election," he said
. "We certainly expect that the governor and local officials will make that possible."

Of course. Republicans don't want people to vote (unless they're not worried about losing, like in SC where they did in fact extend registration deadlines) because they know they're outnumbered. Simple as that. My understanding though is the hurricane in FL has hit GOP areas harder than Dem ones, so this may backfire on him.

50,000 people registered to vote in the last 4 days of eligibility to do so in FL in 2012. Scott knows this. LaRaza had to cancel a voter registration drive these next few days. GOP trash.

Virtually everything in the world has some sort of deadline to get in under.

I have no issue with a deadline on voter registration, particularly this late in the game.

People did have plenty of time.

Voting is too important to be last minute.

I can't wait till we have "late" voting.

"What? You mean the election happened last November and it's Easter now? I better go late vote!"

they only wanted to move the location not shut it down. and TBF it was clearly unfair as the official who made that decision was supposed to be nonpartisan.

Right now, Florida has a lot of other problems to be worried about. Heck, they likely won't have electricity totally restored in time for the elections to run the voting machines. I'll bet that John will be charging that the delay is a plot to deny people their vote.

Where I live there is at least five car deep lines from breakfast till closing around every Chick-fil-A. It's the perfect place to register voters at if you want to reach the largest audience outside of a Wal*Mart.

So you would have no problem with a voter registration drive at planned parenthood?

Go for it, why should anyone anywhere have an issue with a voter drive, so long as those registering people are only there signing people up and not proselytizing their candidates or issues I have no problem.

OK, I'll bite. Why is this post a joke to you?

1. The fact that your are implying CFA is one of the most high traffic locations possible.

2.you are propping up a place that closes on Sundays as easily accessible.

3. You completely ignore the fact that CFA is the most politically charged fast food chain in the country and seem to ignore that issue.
