Yes..not getting to the WS was one of the Cubs'
long streaks while the Indians' streak is not winning the thing. Cubs fans could also still hold on a little to the lovable loser thing if the no WS championship streak continues.

Petition to replace Joe Buck with Bob Uecker for the World Series broadcasts. I think that replacing Joe Buck is generally a good idea anyway so I'm all for it. I've also read that Charlie Sheen has already said he'd be willing to throw out a 1st pitch at Cleveland but MLB has turned him down.
And I've mentioned this before but it's worth noting again. When Sheen was in Houston filming the movie 'The Chase' in 1994, he would go to then Cameron Field to practice his pitching as his next film after that one was Major League 2.

As if any serious fan needed additional reasons to disdain Joe Buck, he just said (recapping the top of the 2nd inning): "Corey Kluber struck out the side, to get around a leadoff double."
Loser.

Madden tried hard to blow it. I was pulling for the Indians, but Kyle Hendricks has been on my NL fantasy team for the past 3 years or so.
Madden pulled him way too soon, after a two-out, full count 5th inning walk where the home plate umpire called at least one, and maybe two third-strikes a ball.
Hendricks had been money all year and was dealing last night. He pulled him probably one, and maybe two innings too soon. He was a quality start machine all year long. If he delays going to the pen, he doesn't have the two-out blow up, and Chapman doesn't come in until the 9th.
Definitely a war of attrition, and the Indians showed no quit.
Glad that Ross got the HR to make up for the 5th inning melt down.
Also, what's the deal with Lester and his lack of mobility and throwing to bases underhanded? I missed the back story there.

RE: MLB Division Series
I think Lester's had issues throwing over to first or even making a simple throw over to first on a ball in play at various points throughout his entire career - just a long-standing case of the yips. Lester apparently couldn't throw to home plate last night either, at least for his first inning of work. Maddon was largely incompetent regarding the use of his pitching staff - the Cubs won because they were a vastly more talented team.

Astros pick (and DBU grad) Zobrist MVP....meanwhile where is Aubrey Huff?
I like Zobrist and Maddon but the Cub fans are suffocating and the glorification of Wrigley wears on me so I hope like the "curse in Boston" we can stop hearing about it now.
But it was a great game. I do think the 17 minute rain delay allowed the Cubs to catch their breath when they looked like they might spin out of control.
So much for home field advantage playing a part. Both teams won only 1 home game a stat that is hard to believe.

Agree with both of you. It was a tremendous game 7. Missed Fowler's leadoff HR, but watched everything in middle. Fell asleep after Indians tied it. Woke up to Epstein holding WS trophy.
I also thought Madden had waaay too quick a hook on Hendricks. Buck reminded Smoltz of Bobby Cox when Madden pulled Hendricks. Cox's issue was always leaving 'em in too long. It worked out for Madden in the end, but I would have left Hendricks in one more to see. Lester was definitely different when he started innings rather than came in to clean up. Watching Chapman let the game get tied was gripping as well. Thought the Indians might pull ahead at that point.
I also was very happy for David Ross to get that HR after the half inning before. He was getting banged up pretty good there and had to come in cold and deal with a lot. He's a great guy and hope to see him coaching/managing someday.
Overall just a great series and so fun to watch young guys from teams that hadn't been there in a while for a change.

I should note that if Lester's lack of mobility was the reason Ross was rushing to field that short chopper in the 5th (and subsequently throw it away), then I'd pin a most of the 5th inning scoring on Lester. The 55 foot curve Ross took off the mask was brutal.
The chopper was in no man's land, so kind of hard to tell whether Lester could've been better positioned to get it or not. But I thought the announcers made some remark to the effect that Ross didn't have a choice on taking charge.

How about this: neither team had a starter go 6 for the first time in a World Series ever.

Kluber went 6 in Game 1 and Game 4, winning both.

You're right. Buck said more than 6; my bad.

Agreed. What a whiny, over-dramatic column. Somebody needs to hold this guy's hand and tell him things will be okay.

RE: MLB Division Series
Who's Madden?
The Cubs coach, Joe Maddon, appeared (imho) to over manage his pitching staff in game 7 except for the fact the Cubs won. He's no Bill Virdon that's for sure.
Maybe he was lucky.
Maybe the Cubs should have won in 4 or 5 or 6 games not seven.
I don't care. Cubs fans everywhere don't care.
The Cubs are World Series champions.
(The funny thing is that the Cub's closer, Aroldis Chapman, blew the save, but got credited for the win.)

Pearlman's stuff has always been a bit overwrought. Usually a decent, interesting, even unconventional writer on some sports topics. This wasn't one of them.
