Then I'm guessing you hate Miami.

And FSU. 01-lucy

Obviously under the influence of a State fan.

Negative, ghostrider. I had these opinions before I met my husband. Of course both our mutual disgust & disdain for UNC and our mutual secret love of Syracuse were major pluses when we first met. 03-cool

I bet!

I think we should do a three-way trade.

ACC gives up NC State and gains Maryland.
SEC gives up Missouri and gets NC State.
B1G gives up Maryland and gets Missouri.

Just curious to know if Maryland was available to obtain back into the fold of the ACC who would you actually trade off to stay at 15 schools??? Also don't give the obvious answer saying you would like to see us go to 16 with them fo that isn't happening till Notre Dame opts in. So who would be put on the chopping block to bring Maryland back???

As stated above NC State. They are in a duplicate market, and haven't won a championship in either major sport since the late 1980's.

You wouldn't have to put anyone on the chopping block. Build a conference around the privates, a modified Magnolia Conference if you will including:

Boston College
Syracuse
Navy
Wake Forest
Duke
Miami
Notre Dame
Northwestern
Rice
SMU
Vanderbilt
Tulane

Then the ACC would consist of:
Pittsburgh
Maryland
Virginia Tech
Virginia
Carolina
State
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Louisville

Round robin? Add 2 more for 12? If I got to decide, I add PSU and WVU. UNC and UVA can have locked game. Break it down north and south.

Need to add ECU to fill the vacancy left by Duke.Their fans are begging. So are WVU fans.

The only one that really seems to be butthurt is you. Wake Forest is going to be in the ACC for as long as they want to be, and that is a fact that you're just going to have to deal with. Asking someone to justify Wake's membership into the ACC is borderline pathetic and makes you look like quite the fool.

Nah. At least Wake Forest tries, and they provide the conference valuable services off the field.

Maryland for NC State? In a skinny minute.

I would prefer to keep NC State over Maryland. I have always felt like NC state eventually will become a football power. Still waiting though lol...

NC State = South Carolina. No history, never been to a major bowl and the prospects of it ever happening are dim.

Maryland has won a national title in football(granted it was in the 1950's), has won a national title in basketball (2002) and has won conference titles in both major sports in the past 25 years. They aren't duplicating an existing media market, and they bring instant rivalries with all of the old school ACC programs because everybody hated them when they were here.

No single school from NC is as valuable as Maryland. UNC comes close.

There is no way in a million years that I would ever buy that Maryland is more valuable than UNC. I think UNC is a million light years more valuable than Maryland.

Maryland "carries" DC and Baltimore, but UNC carries a state that has over 10,000,000 people living in it.

UNC brand is also much strong than the Maryland brand. UNC basketball is at the absolute top (or very close to it) of its sport, while Maryland's is mid tier. UNC and Maryland football brand are on the same level. UNC appears to be rising in that department, however.

As far as media markets go, DC and Baltimore are nice to have, but it is a pro sports area. Maryland isn't even a blip on the radar there compared to the Redskins, Ravens, Wizards, Nationals, Orioles and Capitals.

http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-releas.../11/60498/

This article basically states that the Triad (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point), the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) and Charlotte are 3 of the top 4 markets in College Basketball, when it comes to ratings

http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-releas...e-in-2011/

2012 article that highlights how TV ratings fared for markets in 2011.

12.) Triad and Charlotte tied
22.) Triangle

Would also like to point out the records for each NC team in 2011

Duke: 3-9
NCSU: 8-5
UNC: 7-6
Wake: 6-7

Pretty mediocre.

No appearance of DC or Baltimore on either list.

So to make it short and sweet: I not only disagree, but I would argue the complete opposite. UNC is a much more valuable brand than Maryland is. It isn't even close.

You came pretty strong! I'm willing to concede UNC > UMd, but doesn't that mean the other 3 NC schools essentially bring no added value? If the Heels already carry the state...
