TBH, they could've played it as scheduled.

Weather Forecase: Gainesville, FL
Clear with periodic clouds
Precipitation: 0.0%
Winds: 15 MPH

Well, there are issues other than the current weather. E.g., down here in New Orleans, the day after Hurricane Katrina blew through was a beautiful weather day, perfectly calm wind and not a cloud in the sky, but football would have been impossible due to the fact that half the city was under water and the other half was without power, there was wreckage everywhere blocking the roads, the superdome was filled with homeless people, etc. I doubt that's the situation in Gainesville, but you get the point.

Also, hindsight of course is 20-20. The decision to not play the game was the wise one given what was known three days ago. Everyone knew the most likely outcome was that not much damage would occur in Gainesville, but better to be safe than sorry.

That and it was forecasted to potentially loop around and hit Florida again. And it just might.

RE: Florida and SEC look ridiculous on Hurricane issue
Sanskey was just interviewed during the AM - Tennessee game. He said that he understands the importance of the game being played and that every effort is being made to get it played.

Of course he lacked specifics about what was being discussed and what the timeline for a decision is, so it added up to nothing.

But I do think it's finally dawning on him the pickle the SEC has put itself in by letting Florida dawdle and delay to serve their own interests in the days leading up to the hurricane.

The winning percentage of your schedule is different, but it's the same if the eight game schedule is used as the baseline (as it's is specifically phrased).

I see exactly what you're saying, but it could just as easily go the other way, or it could be interpreted that an eight game schedule must be played. I thought that winning percentage terminology was in there in case of a tie, not for a cancellation. It's gray enough to where there would be a hot mess if things go the wrong way.

All of this is so avoidable too, that's the ridiculous part. I have no doubt that Florida is reading it the way you are, and I have no doubt that LSU and Tennessee (and their lawyers) will make the opposite argument if they don't make the SECCG because of this.
Chidave, i have to tip my hat: when we had this discussion last week you sensed something I and i don't recall anyone else being aware of: it is true that the SEC requires that a team play a full 8-game schedule to be eligible to win their division.

You were right, i was wrong.
