Trial balloon - LSU should cancel game with USA
A blogger or two are floating the idea that LSU should just cancel its game with USA and Florida with Presbyterian so they can play on Nov 19.

That would be the biggest BS maneuver ever.

USA should apply for a waiver from the NCAA to be bowl eligible with 5 wins if they pull that stunt.

BTW, Ladd Stadium in Mobile and FSU's stadium are available this weekend if Florida wants the game. Also they could play at LSU.

There are couple options. First, we let Florida and LSU buy out both us and Presbyterian, and then we play each other on the 19th at Ladd.

Or, and I like this one, we tell LSU to keep the money, we give up this years game, and require them to come to Mobile at a future year. Bring them corn dogs into Ladd and show them a good time. Or better yet, let that be the first home game in our OCS.

Regarding the LSU pays us 1.5 million and we just play Presbyterian on that date (Florida would pay Presbyterian's cost of the game) Sure, so long as the NCAA gives a waiver to count that and Nicholls as bowl qualifying wins. There are too many slots anyway. Have the SEC demand it.

So....

I agree it'd be a dick move but if you end up with five wins, is it really because LSU cancelled on you? Do you have that penciled in as a win to get to 6?

Uh, I wouldn't count us out in that game.

Besides, this isn't LSU's fault either. Its because UF can't get their act together because they're more interested in protecting their revenue than finding an alternate place to play. Tallahassee is open. So is Mobile's Ladd Stadium.

Either way, the only 'not dick move' is for UF to pay USA's buyout and Presbyterian's buyout and get the NCAA to allow USA to use a potential Presbyterian AND the Nicholls win as qualifying games for bowl eligibility.

This isn't a hurricane move. This is a "Florida AD can't get his sh*t together and expects everyone else to pay the price".

RE: Trial balloon - LSU should cancel game with USA
UPDATE: Decision pushed back to 5pm. There was supposed to be a decision at noon CDT today. That was moved back to 2pm CDT.

Now they've announced...no decision yet...5pm CDT is the new deadline. Sounds like they're trying to work something out.

If I'm Rick Scott (Gov of Florida).....no way would I want UF tying up a bunch of emergency response personnel for a football game. And they need the hotel rooms for evacuees.

The continual moving back of the decision time doesn't appear to point towards LSU and Florida moving the game venue.

It's why you play the game. Nobody thought USA was going to beat Miss St.
I think LSU is just scared.

Yep. Finebaum says the SEC office is trying to schedule it for Nov 19. Oops I mean screw over USA.

Any cancellation of the USA-LSU game would not be considered weather related.

Tell LSU and the SEC to keep their money, sign a new contract that brings LSU to Mobile and play Presbyterian at home on the 19th. We shouldn't need that win to be bowl eligible, but if we did I'm sure the NCAA would consider allowing it to be used along with the Nicholls win.

Don't count on the NCAA doing anything.

Should be a nonissue anyway, should, if we can figure out how to win conference games.

And thanks Tom....I knew I screwed that up.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (October 6, 2016) – The LSU-Florida football game scheduled for Saturday in Gainesville has been postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, it was announced Thursday. The universities and the SEC Office will work to reschedule the game later in the 2016 season if possible.

They could have played the game in Louisiana.

RE: Trial balloon - LSU should cancel game with USA
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think that the LSU-USA game takes place. For the USA-LSU game to be cancelled, LSU, as well as UF, would lose a home game. And LSU, not UF would have to pay out USA.

So for LSU, they'd probably have to pay USA 1 to 1.5 million in cancellation penalties, then lose 2.5 million in ticket revenue. All because UF's AD wouldn't move their home game. Also, UF's payment to Presbyterian would be lower than LSU's payment to UF.

I can't see LSU taking a 3.5 - 4 million dollar hit simply because UF's AD wouldn't act in a timely manner.

The USA buyout is 1.5 million. Florida's buyout to Presbyterian is 500k. LSU's hit for losing a home game would be around 3 million. So LSU would take a hit for sure.
