RE: Don't Fret Georgia Southern Fans
To me....his hand touched the line prior to his knee or foot touching in bounds. Ref was afraid to pull the trigger to overturn what was obviously an incomplete catch. It never should have arrived at that point with the way Arkansas State played. Southern played like an FCS team hoping to knock off an FBS team, given 5 turnovers, played relatively well compared to their opponent yet still lost.

Just heard from Cord. of Officials Steve Shaw - IR got it right - no indisputable evidence to overturn. Knee & hand landed simultaneously.

A word of encouragement, look at App's current predicament. We had a coaching change before our lame duck season began, but our fans expected us to still dominate as we did previously (myself included). As you fellas know we didn't for basically two seasons and also suffered a number of fan base humbling and humiliating defeats. We weren't the team we thought we were anymore and fans wanted the coaches head because a number of the losses were on them (I know I did). Financially we couldn't run the coaches out of town so early, so the decision was already made to soldier on. My advice, let the season play out and let the progress be measured in years not weeks.

I hope you were able to get back your deposit on that moving van.

And I don't recall any decision being made. App has never fired a coach mid year for performance reasons.

The decision was made before the uproar, but it was more out of circumstances financially that he would have his contract.

I never reserved a moving van, I was upset with where things were heading. I did offer to list Satt's home on the market, but that was mostly tongue in cheek since his house was already listed and we knew he wasn't going anywhere. Most of my ramblings at that point continued purely out of other Mountaineer fans vocal displeasure in outrage and dissent from our fan base. If it appeared I was trolling our own with their party line views, then yes I was.

I ate my crow for Satt eventually righting the ship the way he did, but don't tell me you expected it to happen the way it did.

I'm pleasantly surprised, sure, but I was not impatient, as many were. We wound up being technically bowl eligible. No, I didn't expect that to happen - even at the beginning of the season - nor did I expect 11-2 last year.

The losses to Liberty and Southern Miss proved that a change needed to be made. And we made them with the move to a two deep with many underclassmen, who were FBS caliber players.

Moreover, or maybe Mooreover, much of that dissent came from folks who were crowing about being them right about moving out of FCS (understand, I'm not lumping you in with that crowd) and what they saw as the unjust retirement of a legendary coach. I'm convinced, again, not putting you in with this crowd, that we had a sizable minority of our fan base that was pulling for our failure. Many have since come on board. Welcome. To the others, good riddance.

And I apologize for GSing a thread about GS, which is not quite irony, but more ironic than anything Alanis Morrisette ever thought of.

Watching on the video board thought you were right. Watching after the game, we are going to disagree. Frame by frame toe, hand, rest of foot in a very bang bang play.

I had yet to see a still frame photo until just now. It's certainly close and a helluva play to get your first win of the season on. I'd say, based on the games against ULM, USA and now State, that Southern has issues punching the ball into the endzone.

If Fritz were still the coach, Southern would've put up at least 40 points simply due to the turnovers. Ineptitude is shown in the speed option to the short side of the field against a team who recruits players to protect sideline to sideline plays.

His hand is a blur in that shot. It's difficult to say what touched first, however, it requires indisputable evidence to overturn and i'd say it's far from meeting that criteria. Thus, I adjust my belief that he was down out of bounds.

Shouldn't have ever come down to that play. We stunk up the joint, even moreso than the Red Wolves and their 5 turnovers.

Almost every year we have a game that just makes me shake my head at what goes on. I'd wish that was just "this game" for the year, but my experience in watching us play tells me to expect more of this as the year rolls on.

Kudos to ASU for actually looking at what wasn't working the last 4 games and making strides in making your team better. That is what I expected our coaches to do the last 10 days and it is resoundingly clear that they didn't.

For me, and i've been watching Southern a lot more the past three seasons due to ESPN3, the coaching change has affected the offense a lot more than anyone could've anticipated. It's almost like Southern want's to run a conventional spread, but also wants to run the option. It isn't like Fritz system or any other system i've seen other than maybe what App ran in 2005 and 2006, only Southern is far less efficient.

The game that showed Southern may struggle to convert opportunities into TD's was ULM. Last night, against a talented team in State, a scenario unfolded that allowed stAte to capitalize on that.

That's fine, but your blatantly being wrong. Why would you do that?

His foot is down and you can see the shadow of his hand, meaning his hand is off the ground.

He was in bounds and it was a TD.

But...the holding on the 4th and 16 play....

You know what's NOT difficult to say . . . . No matter how many times you look at, game speed, slo-mo, still pics., frame by frame it's still:

I'm glad we're having this discussion about another team and Georgia Southern.

They've still never lost a game to App State. They're robbed by the refs every year.

Yeah thats not gonna fly this time Gonzo, we were robbed by our coaches this time...there are pages and pages of evidence if you care to look. I believe the discussion about the replay call on that touchdown was initiated by one of our friendly App St posters.

it was the right call. if you cant put a team away with a -5 to margin you deserve to lose.

Yeah, this is a bizarre thread. Arkansas State poster consoles Georgia Southern fans, discussion turns on a call that no rational Georgia Southern fan is really questioning, and a Ark State and Appalachian State argument ensue.

Sounds about right. Then for dessert, Gonzo shows up.

When does basketball start again ?
