Hearing said coach bemoan the lack of frontcourt depth and note that things will be tough because he only has one guy taller than 6'9 on the team.

The Calkins piece was a pretty clear indication of the free roll Tubby is going to get this season...he can basically do what he wants and say what he wants and there will be no questioning by the media.

I read it and did a couple of eye rolls at not only Tubby's quotes but Geoff's incorrect statements, but whatever at this point.

Calkins is the same guy who said Tubby won everywhere he'd been, which was patently false.

Just hope for the best overall.

I am not saying Tubby will win here or that he has recruited well but his overall record is 557-276. He has had only 2 loosing seasons and they were his first 2 at TCU. His 3rd season was 19-13.

Texas Tech you mean.

Reasonable points and I don't disagree.

Just don't see how anyone who read Calkins article wasn't put off a bit...like, both of you, who are you trying to sell that load of crap to.

Genuinely appreciate you making that point...for the 4,729th time.

Whatever it takes to keep a poster from begging an OL to walk-on to the basketball team.
I'll say this. It's so refreshing hearing a real basketball guy/coach talk basketball instead of the garbage that Tiger fans had to endure over 7 years with the smiling gee golly routine, and pretty much never talking basketball. That said, I wish Tubby had added a few more good additions for this years squad. In the end though, Tubby will make or break himself with his actual record on the hardwood. I'm quite confident that Tubby will win big here, unlike Pastner. Thank goodness for Georgia Tech.

You know what is not refreshing?

Hearing said coach bemoan the lack of frontcourt depth and note that things will be tough because he only has one guy taller than 6'9 on the team when he had three friggin months to do something about it.

His answer was to bring in the 6th guy from Duran Duran who hasn't played ball in 4 years and try to enroll some kids who had no other college options by some time before Thanksgiving break.
Again, like I said in previous post. Tubby will make or break himself with his record on the hardwood. Listening to Tubby yesterday is way way way better than listening to the clown that ran the program for the past 7 years. His press conferences and interviews were worse than garbage. I'm confident we can agree on this matter. In addition to that his coaching was about as good as his interviewing skills. I know this, I couldn't give away my seats, much less get five bucks apiece for them.

Not trying to sell a load of crap. Just making a point as you do every 3 minutes. I said I am not sure if he will win here and that he hasn't recruited well yet. You are the one that keeps posting the same crap over and over and over. We all know how you fill.

Ya'll can hate on HD all ya want - he aint wrong.

I'll give Tubby the benefit of the doubt, but this year is going to be rough I'd imagine.

I know one of the guys trying out. He's got a 45% chance of making the team...He played church ball last year...

I don't have any hate for HD, at all.

Just grow weary of the same post, over and over and over again. We get it.

Sorry wasn't trying to post the same thing...just see someone begin to fan the flame of a football player walking on and want to nip it in the bud early - ain't happening, captain.

I am just excited to see what a seasoned coach can do. During CJP's tenure, all I saw was AAU style BBall. I want to see what an experience coach can teach these guys in the way of fundamentals that will hopefully carry on from team to team to come.

Honestly I don't care what Tubby recruited for 2016. My eye will be on style of play and strategy this season. And generally getting me back excited about Tiger basketball in general.

I'm excited as hell for this season to unfold. I believe in this staff, and think good things are ahead. This team might surprise some people. Yeah, there are holes to fill, and a million question marks pop up, but I think the program is still better today than it was a year ago.

Agreed. And anyone who isn't pleased with what we have compared to what we had either doesn't have both oars in the water or isn't really a Tiger fan, in my humble opinion. And I'm not being critical of those who think they know more than the coach. A bunch of us have felt that way for at least the last few years, and having a guy who is cut from a different cloth in charge is going to take some getting used to.

Let it play out. What are your other options? If you're still here, you're not likely to leave now.

Exactly! I couldn't agree more. There is no comparison at all. It's like we won the lottery in Georgia Tech actually wanting to hire Pastner, all on its own. When you add that our coach is Tubby Smith and no longer Pastner, the deal just got sweeter.

per John Varlas on Twitter:

Congrats to William Douglas at CBHS! He has committed to play at SMU. Memphis had also offered along with many others.

Another blow to recruiting efforts.
