. . . .
4. . . . . Warren hitting - no surprise there
Although the stats are very limited and Fall Ball is not the pressure cooker of the regular season, it appears that Warren may be showing a bit more power this year. In his previous three years, while he has been a solid .300 hitter, they've almost all been singles. Out of 160 H, he's had only 14 for extra bases, or less than 10%. But in Fall Ball this year, he's already had 5 extra base hits (2 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR) out of his total of 13 H. While he will probably not lead us in HR, it would be great to see him compete with Gray, Proctor and Chandler for the team lead in 2B, especially if OG puts him back in the leadoff position again.
I asked Wayne about Charlie-- apparently he both lost weight and is hitting the ball with more pop. He's unlikely to hit many HRs, but with his speed he could become a double and triple machine; think Keenan Cook with a better AVG.

RE: Fall Ball (Baseball) Has Begun
This week the pitchers are in their 4th or 5th outing of the Fall, and they're starting to be stretched out. Really good to see both Amador and Esquivel have their best outing yet-- each going 5 innings, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits, with 5 Ks. Esquivel, coming off a breakout Summer in the California League, will likely be competing with Jefferies for either the midweek starter role (at least until Parthasarathy returns to action) or work as the co-closer when the Otto-man is not available. BTW, it appears that Otto is being shut down from intrasquads for awhile, though I suspect he's still throwing bullpens. No sense in overworking him now.
Orewiler had another strong out: 4.0 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 1 BB, 4 Ks. After all his injury woes since arriving on campus, could he be another late bloomer, like his brother and Andrew Benak? Let's not forget, he was more highly regarded out of high school than his brother before hurting his arm.

His summary data make no sense. NYC #3 in his NCAA rank??? I don't really think of NYC as a hotbed of NCAA baseball.
There are some other head scratchers in his top 20 for NCAA rank - Champaign, IL #8, Annapolis, MD #9, Hanover, NH #11 (just ahead of Baton Rouge at #12?), Buffalo, NY #15.

Apparently he's counting all NCAA teams of any division. He also gives full weight to season ticket prices - that counts for as much as W/L records. So if an area has some small schools with $60 season tickets then that area gets a big boost. I don't what an LSU season ticket costs but I'd guess that's a big drag on Baton Rouge's ranking.

Sarchet with his 3rd HR of the Fall-- this one off the scoreboard! Chandler continued his recent hot streak with 3 more hits. Kravetz, Gayle, Garcia and Moss all continue to impress on the mound.

Appreciate the updates. However, in all fairness, how do we know for sure if it's good hitting...or bad pitching in intra-squad? When is Kendall Rodgers from D1 Baseball coming to help us sort out our prospects for the season?

He was going to go yesterday until he realized that, aside from Kravetz, all the pitchers going were true Freshmen. Perhaps next week....but do you really need Kendall to do the "sorting out" for you?

I trust you -- a lot more than if I were scouting for sure.
I suppose I'm just eager for some positive press for the Owls. Football has been so depressing. Time for hoops and baseball...

Hoops has been getting some good press thanks to Evans. A lot of basketball talking heads are giving him a lot of props in the preseason.

What's to update? He's hitting a little better this Fall, but as a LFer he is obviously behind both Sarchet and Wunderlich, and probably a couple true Freshmen. Some highly regarded guys just don't pan out, just like a number of little regarded guys turn into all-americans.

RE: Fall Ball (Baseball) Has Begun
Evan Kravetz with yet another strong outing: 4.0 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 BBs, 3 Ks
For the Fall, Evan's stat line so far: 7 app, 20.2 IP, 13 hits, 1 run, 3 BBs, 11 Ks with an ERA now below 0.50.
Zach Esquivel is starting to come into form with his second consecutive strong outing.
Both are going to be key contributors in a bullpen anchored by the Otto-man, who has pretty much been shut down this Fall (pitching only 4.1 innings).

Who got the PT at 1B during the Fall Ball scrimmages? And who's likely to get that position as a starter?

??? It's been stated on numerous occassions-- Dane Myers will likely be the starting first baseman (moving over from 3B) when he's not pitching, and my guess right now is that true Freshman Mueller or LF/1B Chase Sarchet will man the position when Dane gets the start on the bump. The question is whether Dane will stay in the lineup as DH on days he's pitching.

Doesn't look like Tristan Gray has played in a while. Wonder what's up there (hopefully just a minor injury).
