It takes a couple of coaches burned before the elites relax their entitlement expectations enough to put up with a coach who takes more than one season to reload. John Mackovic suffered a similar fate after taking over for Fred Akers, one coach removed from the sainted Darrell Royal. If Fred Akers hadn't inherited Earl Campbell from coach Royal, he'd have gone quicker than he did also. Of course when you get beat 66-3 one week, then almost lose to Rice (which probably still holds the single game team rushing yards record against the Horns) the following week, it tends to get the fire the coach sentiments burning a little hotter.

I'm pretty sure BYU broke the rushing record when they trashed UT a few years back

Correct, they got 550. I looked it up. Still I'm proud we're second.

I was hoping for awhile that day that Texas would actually stop them so that the Rice record would hold!

After today's loss it's time to break out the Starkist.

Should be Bailiff however Rice put in place European labor laws allowing DB to have his job for life. Strong is out on Tuesday. Les Miles set to replace him

The "past issues" with Major Applewhite made me hesitant to predict a wholesale relocation of the UH Coaching Staff to Austin. I think Major is pretty much PNG to UT Administration.

Why would Peterson leave UW? He had the chance 3 years ago and said no. He knows the Pacific NW and loves it there. He can dominate the Pac 12. Perfect fit for him.

$$$ would be an obvious reason, but since I don't know him, I can't pretend to guess his preferences .

He's turned down $$$ multiple times before. UW was the one job to pry him away from Boise. I predict he will stay and be very happy at UW for a while.

Petersen is LDS, and takes his faith very seriously. I doubt that Austin would be a comfortable fit for him.

Seattle and Austin are both very liberal cities. I know there are certainly more Mormons on the west coast than in Texas but there are a growing number here too.

What about Todd Graham? I hear Austin is his dream job. Somehow, they're 5-1 now.

Now that would be fun.

DB (not the current Rice coach) part 2?

More apology letters than follow.

Having lived in SLC 5 years, that can definitely be a consideration. Also have no idea if UT is even considering him ( perhaps some older boosters may have problems w LDS?)

I've long heard that Petersen is LDS, but when I looked for it, I find no websites that say he is, and a couple that say he's not a Mormon:

I don't know about these sites' credibility, however.

Peterson is from West Coast and has only spent one year of his entire life outside the Pacific/Mountain time zones. UW has a really young team and like mbrindley said, is poised to do very well in next year or so. I could see him leaving for USC in the future, a la Sarkisian, but not for at least a few years.

I'm pretty sure I've seen him in one of those "I am a Mormon" ads. And I've heard it mentioned in articles about coaching moves.
