Reading the article, I would expect Herman to pick Texas over LSU. I would. Either way, looks like Houston is going to lose their coach after this year. Hope they have a great last hurrah with him!

Who is to say Houston won't make a 2nd great hire? We made 3 in a row before getting Kraagthorped.

If Herman goes to UT, I can see UH hiring their OC, Major Applewhite. Applewhite was reprimanded as a staffer at UT a few years back for having an extra-marital affair with a student.

IMO Applewhite would be a good hire for any G5 school that takes him. He fits the mold- young, hungry, champions an explosive offense and is a strong recruiter.

I think their defensive coordinator, Todd Orlando, is the real gem of that coaching staff. To have an elite defense at the G5 level is next to impossible.

It makes you wonder how much the courting of Herman has to do with this insinuation of Strong being out at the end of the season. My guess is that UT administration wanted it to be known to Herman that the job would be open, lest he get it into his mind that LSU would be the right fit.

I honestly feel bad for Houston fans. Winning is great, but it is really crappy knowing that you have no chance at all of keeping your coach another year.

It is crappy knowing that, but I'd sure as hell take that feeling again right now. I've almost forgotten what it feels like!

I like having my coach be the subject of rumors. Means we are likely ranked and doing good stuff on the national stage.

Hey buddy, I'm holding you to all these great 2nd hire predictions. Better hope your ASU boy at Memphis keeps playing Kansas, SEMO, and Bowling Green.

I don't. You think they felt bad when we lost BK? Screw'em.

RE: UT isn't settling for Mediocre
The Toledo Rockets have done a good job hiring head coaches since Nick Saban. They obviously have a process that is proven and works. We've had good coaches before our current version of Kragthorpe so no reason to think we can't do it again - this time with an actual hiring/search process to land the next great UC coach-in-waiting. One thing is for sure, mediocrity won't change on its own.

C'mon. Kragthorp just needed a few more years to develop depth and get his guys into the program.

RE: UT isn't settling for Mediocre
I think with LSU firing Les Miles in Sept...that is forcing UT's hand...as they know they can't wait to pull the trigger if they want to get Herman.

Then, with FSU sitting in last place in their division (0-2 record), I could see Jimbo Fisher's agent & attorney pushing to get back to Baton Rouge for a fresh start while Herman's agent will try to use both LSU and Texas to push up his client's salary.

I think Herman would "prefer" to be in Austin as Jimbo would "prefer" to be back in Baton Rouge...but if LSU gets Herman first with insane offer...then who knows what will happen at Texas...as Strong can upset OU again this weekend, and all would almost be right in the Longhorn World.

In military parlance, it's a target rich environment.
