Good to see we can score goals this season something we couldn't do if our life depended on it last season, BUT stay out of the freakin box guys.....

Yeah, don't like all the penalties but it's tough against ferris. These teams always play rough vs each other. We'll know more about our discipline after the Bg and airforce series.
Nice win to start the year! Let's get the sweep.

Nothing like a W to start the season! 1 down, 33 to go!

I think we found our "sniper" goal scorer this year in Allison, that was a sweet goal.
Good to start off the season with a "W" and against our in-state rivals. Hopefully we get the sweep tonight at Lawson.

Our unis look terrible, like the replica ones you get off fanatics.com because the school doesn't make the real ones available to fans.

Starting to sound like the football board around here, talking about uniforms and colors like chicks.
Good win. I think Ferris State should join the NCHC. :)
Those rebounds and defensemen not marking their man won't be there in the NCHC in the next few months.
Charm, did you end up going? Thoughts?

RE: Oct. 6th game thread @ Ferris State
Yep, made it by the skin of my teeth. Had to run to catch my flight at BWI, was the last one to the gate. Then flight from ORD to GRR was delayed, which mean we had to step on it to get to Big Crapids. I was depressed all AM because I thought I was going to miss my flight and thus the game, but I made it!
For being such a big team, our guys can skate very well. We basically owned the offensive zone for much of the game and our shots on net were of much higher quality than Ferris', though there were definitely two times during the game where we thought a Ferris shot went into the net, only to have them not go in. You could also tell we had a handful of more offensively skilled guys, guys who basically skated through the defense and created their own scoring opportunities out of nowhere. That was great to see.
On the other hand, WAY TOO MANY penalties. Refs were a little strange in that they called everything in the first period and let almost everything go in the second.
It was an exciting game and it was awesome how we took the lead late and built upon it to guarantee the win. Blacker was pretty good too, he'll need some better defensive help once conference play begins. Allison is going to be pretty good, hope he sticks around for a while.
Glad we are playing still playing Ferris, they are an excellent program and our games are always fiercely fought. Bob Daniels is a legendary coach who always puts out competitive teams. Ewigliben is a cool little arena and all the seats there are good.
I really hope there's a way for the Mich schools to continue playing each other. If that means we take a trip to the UP to play a pair of games against a school once a year, or perhaps do one game Friday at one school and then another Saturday at another school. Or perhaps like they used to do it sometimes in the old CCHA at UAF where teams would play Th-Fr-Sat at UAF. Whatever. Those games are going to be the big ticket games for us moving forward (as long as they are halfway decent teams). I understand coaches have no loyalty to the other schools in the state and no one looks forward to the long bus rides to Marquette or the Sault (and especially Houghton) but the Mich schools need to band together or the UP schools are going to die on the D-1 vine as John Dunn told me at the recent DC alumni event that he would have no interest in getting the CCHA band back together if the new WCHA was to fold.

Nice recap and observations, thanks. You sure busted your hump to get there. That's a real BRONCO!!
I didn't look up in time to spin up the 8.95 for WCHA tv, so I followed online and via text with another Bronco who was following on Twitter.
Wish someone would have periscoped it!
NCHCtv tonight, on the big screen. Hopefully our camera guys get the kinks worked out that they experienced in the Toronto game.

That Courtnall goal off the faceoff was pretty slick. I always enjoyed watching his dad Russ play in the NHL.

Except when he played for Dallas.
I remember Geoff more than Russ. Quite the family tree.
That goal was tough, their D-man got lined up by a kid who knew what he's doing. The unspoken part of that is it was after an AFM timeout. Clean face-off and almost a "set piece" type of goal.
Tiffels looked slick in the highlights that I saw as well. Guy can fly. Penguins are going to love him I predict...

I really liked his play in the 1st where he had the semi-break away, got his own rebound behind the net and wrapped around to get another shot. Great save by the goalie, but great play by Courtnall to stay with it.

Courtnall had at least two big time deeks on that breakaway, then the wrap around attempt was SICK after the save. He showed some serious skill there that you don't see that often.
Looks to me that he may be a big impact player if he plays both ways.

And what about Courtnall on the PK, with the shorty breakaway chance? Goalie stuffs him on the first shot, he gets the rebound, goes around the net and has the presence to hold onto to the puck moving away from the crease for a better shooting angle, then shots top cheddar, yet some how, the Ferris goalie who is flat on his back sticks his glove up in the air and makes the save
