Agree with this to an extent. You have to take points IMO when given, but the only time I feel comfortable with Hagen kicking right now is 30 and under too. Fine line to decide on when your within the 30 yard range. With a running QB I do feel more comfortable going for it on 4th and short since JL.

It's the same feeling I got watching every game this season besides the S. Florida game. So, looking at the YTD FBS stats, I was surprised to see NIU's offense ranks 27th nationally in total yards gained. Yet we amazingly rank 84th in average points per game. No team in the country has gained more yards and scored less.

Whether it be due to turnovers, penalties, missed field goals or field goals instead of touchdowns, we are leaving a ton of points on the field.

To put this into perspective, Toledo has just 30 more yards gained YTD, and the Boat Rowers have gained 55 yards less. Yet both of those teams are averaging 18 points per game more than NIU. And those 18 points per game are the difference between NIU being 4-1 instead of 1-4.

Toledo ranks 17th in the nation in terms of 3rd down conversion pct. WMU ranks 22nd. Where is NIU? 87th. They have more total points because they sustain drives. I've noticed a lot of just plain abysmal play calling in 3rd down situations that kill the series and force us to either punt or try with futility at a FG. I've seen us throw bombs to KG on 3rd and short, and run JB up the middle on 3rd and 10. Just makes you shake your head, part of the reason we are 1-4.

I almost spit out my beer when I read this. Described our offense to a T. And I'm normally a proponent of taking the FG when you get a chance, if you don't have very short yardage for a first down. But we don't know what our FG range is at this point, so that makes it hard.

Yeah, big difference in colors. Rivals never have similar colors. EMU and MSU have similar colors. I could never imagine UM having the same as EMU. Very different instead!

That used to be NIU's strong suit. I know last year their O wasn't as good -- maybe that part has been the key (aside from injuries) to the O slipping away? I think with Maddie, they'll be easier to convert 3rd-and-short, even VS last year.

With maddie I think we can go back to what we did with JL. Third and short should be straight qb power with a lead blocker. Nothing was worse than watching Hare run into a pile on a power play when one yard to his left and one to his right had huge holes. He was really a bad runner when you think about it. Very little vision. Don't know how he managed 900 in 2014.

+10000. I also think they will let him roll out more, from the small sample size we saw last game, and might be able to turn the corner on some of the MAC defenses. Looks quicker than JL was. Just having a mobile QB will at least make the remaining games entertaining and competitive.

Not that surprising to see them have a big letdown after their big win I'm Huskie Stadium.

Is the table set for WMU to have a letdown after their big win at CMU? 05-stirthepot

No chance. NIU has used and abused the Broncos for a decade. They will be highly pumped to have at least one win vs the huskies

MD will be glistening in his maroon and gold saturday, he can barely control his excitement.

Maroon and gold?? Who we playing? CMU?
NIU is playing Loyola Academy. Dawgs are 21pt...dogs. I just need to say Go Huskies, Go Ramblers!
