Have a friend looking for a job - advice, please
I have a friend, we'll say, who is in the midst of exploring his next career opportunity. He's looking for something a bit less stressful than his current (or past) positions, where he can achieve a good work-life balance. He hopes to put out some feelers this fall, before beginning to search in earnest once his current job isn't as busy (the end of November, in all likelihood). There are a few "companies" in good locations that might fit what's he's looking for - the Grand Strand (near Conway, SC), Gulf Shores (Moblie area), and Boca Raton. Oh, and he's a golfer. He really likes to golf. Have any of you played the courses in these areas?

Perhaps a sports analyst situation would allow freedom to live anywhere and play lots of golf. ESPN or FS1 is always bringing in new analysts.

VERY clever way to broach the subject -- well done!

I'm trying to be a true friend and convince him its in his best interest. You know the old adage - the best time to look for your next opportunity is when you're still employed.

I have played the coarses in Myrtle Beach and Gulf Shores, most are very nice and very comparable to KenwoodCC and much better than Hidden Valley.Rimshot

If this friend's current job is such a bad fit, I would recommend doing the right thing and leaving. As soon as possible, actually.

Life is too short, better to die a hero than become the villain, know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em, etc. Please... just leave.

Just speaking out of concern for your friend! 04-cheers

Now I've got it stuck in my head. I think this might be the perfect song for his predicament... even the song title is relevant.

You probably want to make sure he can work indoors. Would hate to see him develop some sort of sinus issue, maybe a drip that would make him sniffle uncontrollably. Does your friend by-chance have one of those soothing folksy southern drawls? You know, the kind that makes everyone feel good even when the wheels have fallen the f' off. What about a Walmart greeter?

Great thread...well done! 04-cheers

Unfortunately your friend seems to be making it more dificult than it really needs to be...he should probbaly just up and leave in the middle of the night...I'll provide the moving van and gas money. Mondays are always good days to quit!

The courses in MB aren't comparable to Kenwood CC. They are mainly sand based with bermuda greens so
they can tolerate the hot/seaside/salt air. Most MB courses are very average for the
daily fee player. A select few (Tidewater/Rivers Edge/Caledonia/Dunes) are more
interesting than Kenwood, but only at select times of the year in better condition.

I hear Lubbock has some nice courses.

The coarses are fine, the only thing that matters in my post is the reference to Hidden Valley, capuche.

Does this friend have fans that think he is doing a good job and just needs 'one more year'?

Your friend sounds like he may want to look into something in civil service. Perhaps the Federal Department of Vacation and Administrative Leave or the U.S Board of Geographic Names has a comptroller position available.

Does he have the opportunity to delegate? Nothing too hands on.
