Okay, we talked about the possible effects of a huge loss to UVA on the other thread, & we got the answer we wanted. Moot question because we won!

Now, lets go with the flip side of the question for UGA. What would a win in Athens over the #8 team do to our program?

Any thoughts?

Big boost indeed - 3 out of last 4, 2 in a row in Athens - at least a #24 A.P. ranking, imagine the possibilities.

We have a better shot at UGA than others on the schedule since they showed a lot vs. Clemson (and if Gibson is out). Tennessee is ready to break that streak as well - UGA could slip against us.

Barring a total collapse later in the season, a win over UGA would virtually guarantee us a bowl game......and guarantee that this season will be deemed successful. We'd still have many tough games ahead, but beating this Georgia team in Athens would be huge for the program. We've never beaten Georgia three times in a four year span.....and our young guys would benefit immensely from the experience. Not to mention the effect it would have on recruiting......

Beat UGA.....and the sky's the limit.

I can't see it happening unless we start catching the ball.....and we get some breaks. It will take a momumental effort.

At least #24? Surely you jest, we're #25 right now. If we knock off the #8 team at their place, at worst we will be top 20.

Well, explain this - Tennessee won last week vs. an aggressive Marshall team and dropped in the polls, can you say WTF??? 03-nutkick - I said at least #24 only due to the constant ignorance and politicin' of the press 03-wink

No doubt the confidence level already gained from the UVA game would go through the roof, & a win would set the tone, & bar for the rest of the season IMO. We would in all probability take a 4-0, top 15, very confident team to Knoxville a couple of weeks later, & give ourselves an opportunity for more great things.

How about the exposure factor? National audience on CBS! That would be a huge boost to the program from all sides, especially recruiting. It would probably set the stage for several more nationally televised marquee match-ups as well (see UT above).

More importantly, if the season played out like we suspect it would it would totally legitimize the USC program & staff.

I get goose bumps just thinking about it. What's more important is I feel like it CAN happen. Not saying it will, but CAN.

Yeah, Drake.....I get those same goose bumps because, like you, I think it's possible. Not likely......but possible....which is better odds than I gave us two weeks ago.

These are the types of crossroads where past USC teams usually fail......will this one be different? Wouldn't it be great??

Also.......we've NEVER won an SEC game on CBS. Never.......we've come close (lost at Auburn 28-24, lost to UGA last year 13-7........led Florida 21-3 before losing 41-21)......but we've never done it. In fact, the Carquest Bowl is our only win on CBS period.

I'll go ahead and give my prediction on this now: we WILL beat a team Lou hasn't beat yet while at U.S.C.: LSU, UT or UF (it may not be on CBS - but I can tell you it will still be sweet) :)

Add Ole Miss to the list as well. We've yet to beat them since Lou arrived, & right now they're looking very beatable on the road. Still a lot of football to play between now & then though so I'll not get too ahead of myself. 03-wink

If we win between the hedges it will put us in the same position that we were in 2 years ago. My guess is 15th in the media poll and 17th in the coaches poll. If the ball gets rolling we could very easily go into the LSU game ranked in the top ten. How's that for expectations? It could happen. But we have to beat the dogs first.

Ole Miss will be a hard game for us on the road - I think they will be hungry in Oxford.

If we win this weekend, and I'm predicting that we will....we will be looking at a year not unlike 2001, with at least 9 wins and a VERY good bowl game...precursor to 2004, where we should be vying for the SEC crown.

That's a great scenerio, & yes a win on Sat could set us up for another 2001 type year.

Maybe better!
