It's not unusual. Sure, you'd like to have an off week, but that's not the expectation.
We played Cincinnati last September on a Thursday after the Bowling Green game, five days, same as this year with Ole Miss-Temple.

no its not.
Houston played Sep. 10 then played on Sept. 15; played sep. 24 and again on Sep. 29
Cincy played Sep. 10 and then Sept. 15
Clemson played Sept. 17 and then on Sep. 22
Georgia Tech on Sep. 17 and then on Sep. 22
UCONN on Sep. 24 and then on Sep. 29
That's every ESPN Thursday game in September. Not one team had a week between games. Unsure how that effects the price of tea in China though.
Ideally, a Thursday night game could be worked in with the bye week. For example, you 'd play on:
Sat Sept 10
Thur Sept 22
Sat Oct 1
That way, you never have the short turn-around as a result of a Thursday game. Probably too much to work out, especially for both teams, but this would be ideal. I think we had this sort of situation a couple of years ago.
