Exclamation Post Week 5 MAC Ranking
We've had enough games to separate teams more. Schools toward the bottom are more muddled and not too relevant to the conference races.

1. Western Michigan (Should go undefeated)
2. Toledo (Provo is a tough place to get a win)
3. Central Michigan (Cooper Rush and they did beat a Top 25 team)
4. Ohio (Has a D good enough to win MAC games)
5. Akron (Offense will be good in MAC play)
6. Eastern Michigan (4-1 but not strong competition)

-NIU may be getting back on track which could mean some surprise wins in conference play.

-BG is getting ready for a rough MAC stretch of Ohio, Toledo and Miami. That should finish their season.

-Miami has Akron, Kent, BG up next. They could make some noise in the East.

-Ball State may only have 1 more sure win left on the schedule in Buffalo.

Akron's starting QB has shoulder worries, which usually don't go away in a week, and don't take much to flare back up with another hit ... backup QB made big play when it mattered vs. Kent. Zips defense ??? giving up a 97-yard drive in final five minutes against Kent ... yowza!!!

The East could conceivably go 0-fer vs the West. Might get a couple of wins but it's likely every East team will be the underdog vs the West. There just isn't much quality anywhere on this side. Weakest year ever? Negative parity?

And then basketball rolls around and it's the exact opposite. Some day perhaps it will balance out.

West and east should be fairly close this year. West may even have the edge in basketball with the emergence of NIU and emu

West will be better, but still not as good as the East with Akron, UB, Ohio and Kent State

You think the Bobcats will be underdogs in Athens against EMU?

I didn't look at every matchup through the entire season and was making a broad generality, but I'd say it was possible. If Ohio loses this week and EMU wins, certainly EMU would be favored. If OU beats BG and EMU loses to Toledo this week, then Ohio will be favored at home, but it won't be by much more than the home field advantage (-3) I would guess. Just speculatin'.

Barring some unforeseen injury (I'd expect both Woodson and Ball back by then), I'm going to say Akron will be favored vs. Ball State as well.

I think Eastern's performance against Toledo this week will really tell us what kind of team to expect from the Eagles. They don't need to beat Toledo... but they just need to put up a good fight. Sure... they beat the reigning MAC champions... but BG just looks awful this year.

Perhaps I'm biased against EMU. I've just gotten used to Eastern being the easy W every year...

Toledo won@ BGSUX 44-28 last season, when the Falcons won the MAC.

Yeah I don't think games against Toledo or WMU are going to tell much of a story for us. I expect both teams to light us up. I'm more interested in how we do with the other games as a barometer for how good we really are.

RE: Post Week 5 MAC Ranking
EMU (4-1) Remaining Games, % Chance of Winning:

- Toledo: 20%
- @Ohio: 40%
- @WMU: 20%
- Miami-OH: 60% [I'd say higher, but Miami plays tough]
- @BSU: 40%
- NIU: 50%
- CMU: 35% [I'd say a bit lower but it's at home]
+2.65W = 6.65W - 5.35L

So I would guess around 7-5 if they ride the wave of excitement, but with a decent chance of going 6-6 which feels more comfortable for me to guess.

Curious where that Miami fan went that was trash talking NIU in some of our game threads, he's been noticeably absent lately...

Even though NIU has been garbage this year outside of playing Ball St well, Miami fans are in just as lousy a position as us
