To other folk's point ... neither big 10 program is any good. Beating them sure is better than losing but that would have had a whole different context.
Don't remember the date but that Illini team WMU beat at Ford's Field was far more a challenge as they were far better a team. So beating them and as WMU did that game alone trumps yesterday.
Cant blame this year's WMU squad that this years Illini stink (something I have been trying to convince others since this past February). But fans keep thinking b10 and they get stars in their eyes.
And I'm not saying this years WMU squad isn't as good as that WMU team either. You cant judge by the number of wins and losses. It comes down to how good were the teams they beat and lost to.
That Ford Field Illini team was light years better than last years BG team to help put it in context. Light years!
Better than this year's Illini, yeah. Probably not better than BG last year. They finished with 5 wins.
I would argue far better than BG of last year. U of I played and plays far tougher a schedule and was just coming off the Rose Bowl season. Meaning, they weren't as good as the previous year and didn't schedule My Fair Lady U or Nichols State to pad those 5 wins.
In fact that game, if won by Illinois would have put them in some fair to middlin bowl but still light years ahead of the Bahamian Tater bowls.
But the question you really want answered, is this years Fleck coached team really better than the best Cubit coached team? Correct?

We'll never know, but it was too bad that we had our best team in the same year that Ball State and CMU were so good (and had them on the road).

2000. CMU had one win going into that game, and prior to that game we were carpet-bombing MAC foes by 40+ points. It was a legitimate spread. The rest is history, which is where I'll leave it.
As for the current rankings, I wasn't expecting us (or CMU or Toledo) to be ranked yet. The fact that all three teams are receiving votes is a positive sign. If we're fortunate enough to handle our business one game at a time over the next four weeks, then yes, I think it would be a legitimate possibility at that point.
Long way to go, though. One week at a time...

I'm still puking over that game...
This is why NIU looks so ominous this year....

Sorry, I got the date wrong. I was thinking either 2000 or 2001. Anyway you look at it, even thinking of that game is nauseating.

If both teams are 4-0, the winner will likely be ranked. CMU is around 35 right now and WMU not far behind.
CMU and NIU both finished the season at 12-2 and both finished ranked around 23. So idk where this "you need to run the table to be ranked" is coming from. We are only 3 games into the season.

AND:
NIU beats BSU by 1 pt due to 4 unforced turnovers, *and* the team hoists Rod Carey up on their shoulders celebrating him, as he gets an instant 10-year contract extension for $800k/yr.

My wager league doesn't go down to Div1AA games... which you had the one there with Illinois State.... I added all the others... took the points and parlayed all the winners and put on what $1 would win...
$1 with points would get you a cool $110538.00

Too bad my wager leagues is limited to a max of 6 games in a parlay. I don't bet real money... I have WAY too bad luck with that kind of thing... This is a wager league during the college and NFL football season... Only $100 on the line for the entire league... person with the most money in their pot at the end of the season wins the ACTUAL pot. Your $100 real dollars gets you $25000 fake dollars... must bet at
least 20% of what you currently have in your pot each week... If anything its giving me a good lesson in Money Line, Parlay and teasers against points...
However it did give me what it would return if you were able to actually parlay all of those...
