the stakes for this weekend
think it's interesting this weekend with the 3 huge games
Stanford/Washington
Wisconsin/Michigan
Louisville/Clemson
think 5 of the 6 are still around no matter win or lose...
but the one who if they lose is in the most trouble is Clemson. They would need Louisville to lose twice to Duke, NC State, Virginia, BC, or Wake Forest- to just win the division. and we just don't know how much of a chance they would have if they don't have that in making the playoff...
the ones that would be easiest to bounce back from would be Wisconsin/Michigan- as that's not even a divisional game.

If Lousiville wins this weekend we are on a collision course for the Louisville-Houston game deciding 1 of the playoff spots.

RE: the stakes for this weekend
the Stanford/Washington one to me is also pretty dangerous for the loser. If Stanford wins, they've already gotten USC, UCLA, and Washington out of the way. All they have left are Wash St, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon St, Oregon, and Cal. The only 1 loss team in that group of 6- Colorado. So Washington needing 2 losses from that group- not likely.
If Washington wins- they still have left Oregon, Oregon St, Utah, Cal, USC, Arizona St, and Wash St. So 2 still undefeated teams in there.
So it's a lot more of an elimination game if Stanford wins- that's going to make it pretty tough on Washington to get back in the divisional race.

If Clemson's only loss is to an undefeated Louisville that has wins over FSU and Houston as well, they could still sneak into the playoffs depending on what happens in the other P5 CCG's.

It would be a real upwards battle. Big Ten and SEC would be almost locks. And just looking at Stanford- if they win tonight, it's going to be tough to see them with more than 1 loss heading into the CCG. And Utah has all of 1 ranked team on the other side of the Pac 12. So if it's 1 loss Stanford vs 1 loss Utah in the P12 CCG, tough to see the winner out over Stanford.
Also, Clemson would need Louisville to beat Houston. a Houston win over Louisville would pretty much KO Clemson.

There is a lot of football yet to be played. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if there were no undefeated teams left come selection time.

That's fine. But that doesn't help Clemson out. If Clemson is 11-1 with no Conference championship- it's going to be tough. If Big Ten has a 1 loss champ, they are in guaranteed over Clemson. Same with SEC. And Pac 12 has Stanford and Utah looking like they could enter the CCG with 1 loss each at most. Pretty tough for Clemson to top that.

interesting point from Ivan Maisel of ESPN:
Tonight's game may be a referendum on what kind of schedule to play in September. No. 7 Stanford has beaten three Power 5 teams -- Kansas State, USC and UCLA. No. 10 Washington has opened with Rutgers, Idaho, FCS Portland St., and Arizona. That foursome is a collective 3-8 against FBS opponents, 0-6 vs. Power 5 teams.

Washington played a Baylor-like non-conference schedule, which might bite them back if they end up competing for the last playoff spot against a team with the same number of losses. Won't be an issue unless they get to the point of winning the division, of course.

I think Houston could destroy Sanford or Washington. I'm just not seeing anything special out of either of them in this game. Could the American actually be better than the pac12 this year? We don't have a single team with a losing record. The Memphis vs Ole Miss and the Navy vs AFA games tomorrow should reveal a lot

UConn that's a losing record
You could also be said that the majority of the AA C teams do not have a winning recorded

Didn't watch the game, but Stanford clearly was not ready to play. That gets you off to a bad start. But then they just let the game get away from them and let the snowball roll all the way down the hill.
I have my doubts that Stanford is that bad or that Washington is that good. These weeks sometimes happen.
