Men's Basketball Season
Well folks, it's getting close to the start of men's basketball. Does anyone have any info on preseason events, meet and greets etc? I would love to get out and meet the new players

Best part about football. We go 1-4 or so and you know basketball is right around the corner.

To which shooter are you referring? I hope not the one from Walsh Jesuit. I don't see him being a contributor in 2016 - 2017.

Is the PG really a PG???
I hope so because Kent State needs a true point guard. While Thomas was gritty, he is replaceable. This year's squad can't afford a converted point guard in my opinion.

Is the Big guy TOO big???
Recent history suggests that we will be somewhat disappointed. But his recruiting history is impressive.

Can the true freshmen help???
IDK[/b]

Can the redshirt freshmen play???
IDK

Some answers ... pleez.

New guys have talent. A.D. and Leo will help. So will Zabo, DeBerry and Des. Alonzo Walker and Mitch nice role players. Someone will redshirt I'm sure....just not sure who that will be. Give me a week or so and I can get more details.

DannyB - I saw the new team picture on fb today. There's a white kid wearing number 25. Who is that? He's not on the roster that's on the website.

DeBerry will be the shooter? Plus do you think we will have to rely on Pippen or will he redshirt?

RE: Men's Basketball Season
I'm excited to get a look at the new guys. Probably will take a while to gel but on paper these guys have talent. I'll echo the "we need a true PG" sentiment. Zabo and Ridenour both have high major experience and good size for MAC Pgs. I hope Avery has made some strides I still like him as a player. Of the new guys I'm probably most excited about DeBerry. I'm hoping he can be the shooter we've been missing. He's got nice size for a wing too. He has the potential to score a lot of points in the MAC.

Big take away from the team photo. De La Rosa does not look overweight and Pippen doesn't look as skinny as I expected. Both good things.

Got a nice commitment today from a 2018 kid. Not sure if it's public knowledge yet, so keeping the name on the DL. Just wanted to share good news.

Found him!!! ... Interesting skill set. Position of need in 2018. Let's hope Kent keeps him.

RE: Men's Basketball Season
Always nice to get early commits. Seems like he's got some upside. Hopefully he stays committed. Anyone know if we're expecting Duling to sign next month when the early signing period starts?

Unfortunately we haven't had much luck with the early commits lately. Andrews and that big guy from NC or something come to mind (Richard Smith or something?).

Duling is supposed to sign next month and I have it on good record there are many high majors that want/wanted him. No news of him flipping on us, so I think he is going to be a Golden Flash.

Do we just have the one open scholarship for next year? I'd assume we'd have Jimmy Hall's and Deon Edwins' to give out. Any rumours about a second recruit for 2017?

CBS Sports' 1-351 college basketball rankings

Quote:213. Kent State
Jimmy Hall is going to be the leader for a Golden Flashes team that looks mercurial. The MAC in general is mercurial. Kent State's window of wins this season could be as low as 13 and as high as 22.

MAC
78. Akron
115. OU
146. NIU
149. Ball State
164. Buffalo
192. CMU
213. Kent State
238. Eastern Michigan
256. Toledo
273. WMU
281. BG
289. Miami

Mercurial???? Does that mean we run fast? Like Mercury?

These rankings (except for Acorn) seem a little low. Looking at the Sagarin rankings from last year (and I wouldn't argue about how valid Sagarin is, but it's a useful computer ranking of all the teams) - the MAC teams were ranked between 95 (Acorn) and 232 (Miami) with a mid-point of 162 (Central). This seems to drop the MAC about 30 places on average

Other than BG and Miami, I'm not sure I trust any of these team rankings. Is Akron that good ... Is UB that bad ... Is OU better ... Is CMU really better than EMU... really??? ... on and on and on ...

None of these mag/website rankings should be taken seriously ... but my guess is this site will have a lot more teams wrong than right by the end of the season ...
