UAB signs with Under Armor
We better land us a sweet deal when this Russell stuff expires.

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2016/...der_a.html

"The contract, which was provided to AL.com through a public records request, stated that the seven-year agreement started on June 1, 2016, and runs through May 31, 2023. UAB's product allowance will start at $1,075,000 and Under Armour will pay UAB a $50,000 rights fee each year. The contract can be renewed for an additional three years by mutually consenting in writing by Oct. 1, 2022."

That $1M a year will be a nice supplement to their budget. Hopefully with another good year in football and then get basketball to have a good year "might" get us a sweet deal as well.

We still have 1 more year after this year with Russell so we've got a little over a year to produce on the field/court to show our worth. I'm sure it was mentioned but in the article it said "all sports" yet baseball and womens basketball continue to wear UA and Nike while I've noticed cross country/track & field wears Brooks. What was the loophole there?

http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-pre...ive-y.html

Southern Miss announced a five-year contract to wear Russell Athletic gear in all 16 varsity sports beginning with the 2013-14 academic year

I don't follow recruiting but have been told that players migrate to the Nike, Under Armor and other brands and not Russel, Keds, P.F, Flyers or perceived lesser manufacturers?

I guess they could be that silly but nothing surprises me.

Wasn't Russell another great idea from the 'General'? Also, doesn't baseball wear UA?

CUSA conference champs won with Russell gear last year.

Our uniforms look good this year.

If someone is really stupid enough to choose one school over another because of the brand of uniform.....then I suspect that person also can't score an 18 on their ACTs.

UAB is still a dog turd of a program and UA-T's ***** so who really cares?

I don't....and I like our unis too.....you know what I think about the whole uni thread thingys....

however, it's obvious many within the younger sect do....

in the scope of branding, russell is easily behind ua and nike...

...major brands will only offer their apparel to teams who have a large market size to get as many people as possible to see their brand.....Hattiesburg, Missipp does not even come close to the amount of people needed to be offered a contract by UA, Nike, adidas...etc....etc....

Russell and Starter are the only manufacturer's willing to offer us a contract.

IIRC, Russell has a big office or manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, so they are to WKU what Nike is to Oregon in that they get to try new stuff out first and that type of thing.

Russell's quality is fine. They've been making uniforms longer than Nike's been making shoes. The current uniforms are sharp, too. That said, being contracted with them is a perception issue, because most of their business is with high schools and FCS schools. Also, that first set of uniforms they did were not only just our colors plugged into the same basic template they used for many other teams & events, they were kinda ridiculous, especially with those heaven-forsaken clown pants.

My money's on us signing with UA as soon as the current contract is up, being that they already have baseball & McG dealt with UA when he was as USF.

Nike was giving us like 125k a year when we were with them. Russel is giving us 600k a year I believe.

Russell used to be the official uniform provider for MLB and Auburn wore Russell uniforms for years. It was a huge deal when they switched to UA because Russell is headquartered in Alexander City, AL. Their quality is good. I even like the styles we've had the last two years. Russell just doesn't have the brand recognition with recruits and that means something but I doubt we've ever lost anyone due to Russell.

I think the brand is a much bigger with recruits in basketball.

I don't like the name Under Armor. It sounds too much like a pun on the word "underarm."
