RE: DiNardo (BTN): 10 game conference schedule is inevitable for the Big Ten
The elite East programs would love to sink their teeth into more of the lower West programs, every year (Minn, NW, Illinois, Purdue). Sure, sure ... under the guise of "tradition".

goof,
LOL! Got me on that one. It's such a made-up, rarely played game that I forgot.
Minnesota's real trophy games: Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa.

I am just curious. I could be wrong, but I don't get the impression you grew up watching Big Ten football. Are you really just a Bison fan thats living in Minnesota, now or did just live a short time in Minnesota. I mean ultimately I don't care, but I just can't imagine any real Gopher fan that would feel that way about their team. Maybe a Viking fan, but no real Gopher fan.

Sorry you're wrong. Penn St, for sure, is not a traditional or historic opponent for Minnesota.

The first meeting was 1993 - PSU's first B1G game (I believe)
That should answer all questions about how traditional the game is.

Once the league goes to 16 (with Texas and OU), this will absolutely work just fine. The league will be so geographically diverse just within itself, that 1 elite OOC game and 1 rubbish OOC game will complete a 12-game schedule just perfectly.
pods
Neb/Minn/Wiscy/Iowa
Texas/OU/Illinois/Purdue
NW/MSU/UM/Indiana
OSU/PSU/Rutgers/UMD
Give everybody a cross-pod protected game each year (4 seasonal opponents total) and then you rotate the other 11 Big Ten teams with your other 6 conference games per year. Every kid plays every team in the Big Ten twice in his career...and plays in every Big Ten stadium from Austin to New Jersey.

I don't see either TX or OU ever playing in the B1G.
