You still remember the TROY fight song from a few years ago? lol
I caught myself humming it on the way to work today. Your band plays it so darn loud its hard to forget.
well, Hopefully you will hear it a lot at our game later this year.

RE: Band shows
Our band is awesome.
Also, one of them made me feel really old before the Miami game when I gave him some leftover Boberry biscuits and he said, "Thank you, sir."
I'm now a sir according to college students. Ugh.
Anyway, the Marching Mountaineers are awesome.

Having spent a lot of time as a TA, I can attest that there's not much that forces one to grasp the reality of lost youth like the first time a pretty coed calls you "sir."

The BOD excells on the field, minus the flag corps, but they desperately need a director who understands how a band works during the game. They play a short part from the fight song to death. One would think after a first down or big play, but they are just as likely to play it after a loss. Absolutely no rhyme or reason to when or what they play anything. I'd like to see us bring in a director who has been at an SEC school.

That's the guy! I kept waiting for that thing to take off! Who needs a band when you have a jet!

RE: Band shows
I put this in another string, but I'll drop it in here as well. My degrees are from GS, but I'm a proud alum of the JSU band. That's led to some interesting looks from the fans at GS vs. JSU games over the years! I live for the Eagles, but at halftime, I'm a retired Marching Southerner. Sure wish they were in the conference. JSU - Troy might be the best band rivalry ever!

Ha! We won't talk about when I marched at JSU! Hint... Erk Russell was still a defensive coordinator.

RE: Band shows
Best bands in the belt huh? That is such a tough thing to judge when the arts (especially the m a ruching arts) are subject to such vast interpretations since unlike sports, there is no real quantifiable measure as to gauge their success against each other, other than how the respective fan base is moved by their bands performance (and most of us only see 1 or 2 other bands any given season, thus skewing our perception even more).
As a music educator that teaches band, I can tell you even amongst ourselves we argue over who is better even we have a rubric to adjudicate bands, because even then it is all really subject to interpretion. Ie) I think band A really excuted in this caption, and band B did not. And another judge will say I feel that band B a better than band A in this caption, and use said open rubric to justify their rankings.
That said, Texas is traditionally a strong state when it comes to the marching arts (very anecdotal but factually based on what I is commonly expressed by other music educators across the country when talking about Texas bands) and Texas State hiring of some big names in the music world the past we years and my working with student teachers from tat school in the past 10 years would lead me to say that in that sense Texas State is likely one of the top schools musical out there in the Belt. Using my own ears as a metric, I do like what they have been doing recently as compared to years past, so it without having seen other Belt schools, say they are pretty up there. Now if only Withers could do the same with the FB team.
