Week 5 Bowl Projections - ESPN

Boca Raton sounds nice in December....but MTSU? Meh

Gotta keep winning, then maybe the St Petersburg Bowl vs ACC or the Military Bowl vs ACC. Who knows, maybe the B'ham Bowl vs SEC again?

I know, just getting to a bowl would be great...but still.

Please no B'ham bowl... for fans that was a horrible stadium, concessions and parking and area around was scary bad. Anywhere but B'Ham.

Good lord I can't imagine a worst bowl than playing MTSU. But that'll change dramatically before the end of the season.

I have sworn that I'll never go back to Birmingham for a bowl. That bowl was horrendously bad in all aspects. No one should have to experience that.

First with a new coach and staff, having lost Paxton, Cross, McCain, et al, I think reaching bowl elegibility is a success in itself.

your record means nothing for bowl selection after the playoff/ access bowl spots. Its how many people you can bring and the pecking order. That's how a Memphis co-conference champion ended up in whatever bowl it was that we played BYU

First time I had been to Birmingham for a game in 20 years, and it was worse than I had ever remembered it being ...

I also hope I never see Birmingham again, but if the Tigers are playing in it again, as much as I'd hate it, I'd be there supporting my team.

I would be there for my Tigers again, but I would also stay again in the "Midtown" area we stayed in last time, and nowhere near that plastic, unaccommodating area they call a convention center with its clusterf restaurants and parking lots, et cet. Getting good food and drink was an utter nightmare. The "Midtown" area had a tiny Overton Square area with 3 or 4 restaurants which were quite good.

RE: Week 5 Bowl Projections - ESPN
I went to the Birmingham Bowl.

I don't know anything about the city of Birmingham. I don't live there. I drive through there on the way to Atlanta or the beach.

To me the stadium is in an area similar to the location of the Liberty Bowl. I live here so the Liberty Bowl area is comfortable to me. I know the ins-and-outs of the area. If I were a visitor and didn't know anything about Memphis I could see where the areas seems sketchy.

Same with Birmingham. The area seemed sketchy, but so what.

The negative (other than the Tigers not showing up) I saw with the experience was the stadium itself.

I understand Legion Field has seen its better days. I get that. It opened in 1927 making it 89 years old. Heck, it's 37 years older than the Liberty Bowl.

Yeah, it's unfortunate the condition it's in. But even if they city had been maintaining it, the design of the stadium is not good. That's what shocked me.

No one wants to play an SEC team with nearly a month to prepare.

We need a bowl game against some 6-6 CUSA chump.

Aside from the game itself I had fun in Birmingham and thought the atmosphere surrounding the stadium was carnival like with makeshift burger stands & street vendors. Sure it's a seedy neighborhood but compared to Mobile ...
