The two app games I've watched, ya'll haven't been that impressive. WMU would smoke anyone in the sun belt, and we shot ourselves in the foot on 3 plays, and basically gifted them 21 points. Apps passing game isn't as good as WMU, and won't pose as big of a problem.

GT just sucks this year.

You're focusing on the wrong thing clearly. If you watched the Akron game, it was clear that the coaching staff game planned differently and the intent was to throw the ball more. Against Miami and Tennessee, you are clearly going to see a team who is overmatched.

If you watched the games against peer schools, you would understand that G5 v. G5 is much more telling with the type of offense App is going to run. In all honesty, I see a repeat of last years game but worse because Southern's defense has actually fallen off whereas App's offensive line and running game has improved.

Through that improved running game you will see more effective passing with a bigger and faster receiving corp than what was in place last season. But we still have a month until that game and another 3 games you can watch other than against two AP Top 25 teams.

Personally I don't view Southern as a strong team at all. Fortunately after viewing the landscape of the SBC, it's possible to win close contested games. After watching App State get literally smashed at home, I think we could win. I was severely disappointed with WMU, but I also understand this team is learning a new offense and was playing a road game against a team they previously destroyed the previous year. Already being 2-0 in Conference play gives me hope of making a bowl game and possibly winning conference regardless of our flaws.

They beat Vanderbilt 38-7. Vanderbilt has beat WKU and Middle Tennessee, both of which are likely better than Southern this season. Not sure how exactly Georgia Tech sucks this year, considering their only loss is to undefeated Clemson.

We don't plan on passing on GS, it just happens after we get bored running.

If you saw that game and it was played at Miami would you have a different opinion? What exactly do Southern and Miami have in common to warrant a comparison?

31 Carries 164 yards - 5.3 YPC
30 Carries 84 yards - 2.8 YPC - Other than the 80 yard run

Other than that single play in the running game, App's run defense played fairly well. Southern clearly isn't going to have the advantage on the perimeter than Miami did either. If anything, you could draw more relevant comparisons from the viewing of the Akron and ODU games due to the similarity in player ability.

I have no idea how this season ends. If we can win one of the next three, 6 and 6.

Troy has looked the most impressive thus far. Personally I'm glad Southern has over 2 months to prepare for that game in the Boro.

I can't speak for the rest of the conference, but WMU would not smoke Troy. We're probably not at their level yet, but it would in no way be a beat down. APP right now is a good two touchdowns better than GS, and if GT sucks you guys must be a dumpster fire, because GT is in much better shape at this point.

We'll see about that. GS does not in any way whatsoever look like the best team in the conference. Scraping by ULM and an unimpressive win over a way overrated USA team does not instill enough confidence in anyone to win out in conference play. You fought back admirably against WMU, but the final score does not reflect how the game actually went down 42-17 in the 3rd after they let off the gas.

Troy might not win the conference, but what we've done is a whole lot more impressive than anything GS has done this season.

I doubt WMU would smoke App either. Most of the issues versus Miami were blown coverage related which can be corrected with more experience against that type of team.

I find that kind of comment a way to rationalize the result of the game. Troy is most likely the team to beat in the conference however the App, Southern, Troy games are all about match-ups as all three run different offenses.

Unfortunately that one run for 80 yards counts. 04-chairshot

At the end of the day, Southern could be 0-4 right now and still have the ability to smash App State.

App State could be 0-4 and still smash Southern.

These 2 teams literally hate one another. It should be a fun contest regardless which team is more talented or playing the best football. That's what makes this rivalry special.

GS and Miami run completely different offenses. Miami's playbook looked a lot like Troy's when we visited The Rock. That either helps or hurts Troy moving forward, not sure which.

You claim that "Miami literally gave us a road map to beat you". I'm asking you what about Miami's defense is similar to Southern's? Maybe you can hurt Cox on a 75 yard run (had that run not been called back he would've had around 115 yards in the first quarter).

I love when Troy and App fans come on here talking about their signature losses. It's great. After giving us sh*t for talking about our "moral victories" the last two years and now they are proclaiming to be conference favorites for what? Not losing to Clemson and Tennessee as bad as y'all were suppose to?? Give me a break... 03-lmfao

I understand the differences between Miami and Southern. The difference between Miami and Troy is the athletes on the outside. The issue, that is going to help Troy, is App's defensive ends are both around 5'11 so you can throw screens, slants, drags, etc. all day long. There is no more Ronald Blair to jump the throwing lane and pick it off.
