Bring us some Baton Rouge thugs who can play defense. Y'all know Baylor did not get there by signing choir boys from the Baptist Church.

We'd have to switch to real grass at HRS.

You could do alot worse than hiring Les Miles. That being said, he probably retires before he takes a non-P5 job.

Call the materials science department and have them invent edible field turf. It's not often that PhD thesis projects fall out of the sky like this.

Lol-,thought the yellow bellies had a signature win against the do
Domers. We would take if for sure, but seems like a victory over Notre Dame does not mean as much these days

The problem at ND isn't the DC. Kelly is just DB on a higher plain.

Van Gorder is a very polarizing figure. He has looked like a motorbiker in search of a gang, or maybe a druggie in search of his next hit, for most of his career. I was sort of amazed by how much he'd cleaned himself up when I saw him on the sideline in the ND-TU telecast.

Miles is a great recruiter who installed some discipline in what had been a wildly undisciplined program at LSU. But he has a reputation for underachieving for the talent he has. We need somebody who can recruit and impose discipline, but we also need an overachiever, because even the best recruiter is not going to close the talent gap entirely. Plus if you think Bailiff's offense is boring, you ain't seen nothing yet.
I really think "overachiever" is the primary attribute we need to seek. And that's not Miles.

I think people have short memories about the history or lack there of at LSU. Miles won 78% of his games and 69% in the SEC. Great he's not Nick Saban, who is? I think the guy just hates the forward pass is all.

No question he did a wonderful job at LSU. And there are plenty of places where he would be an upgrade, no question about it. Good coach, and as nearly as I can tell, a good man, too.
But LSU is not Rice, and I don't think the things that made him successful at LSU would work at Rice.

Besides I think UH fans should be more worried about Mensa heading to Baton Rouge. I think that is one reason they pulled the early trigger on Les to get things rolling towards throwing the bank at Mensa. Question is how much Tillman is willing to pay to keep him? UH itself can't offer that kind of cash without taking more shots from the academic side. Tillman is clearly on the clock IMHO.

Les Miles would be a coup!
Defense? Check
Recruiting? Check
All he would need to is bring in someone to run an offense. Besides, I'm not sure that the spread offense is what a school like Rice needs right at this moment. It would seem that getting back to a ball control/TOP style of play would be more beneficial.

Given Louisiana's current financial woes, if they break the bank for Mensa (and they very well may) it would speak volumes about their priorities--and not in a good way.

As an aside, does anybody know what is the NCAA record for most interim head coaching jobs?
